Don't envy them. You seek out fact and correct opinion, on any subject, without letting what you find conflict with what you've already been taught. That's how everyone should be. Truth outweighs personal opinion. You've got an admirable characteristic.

If people want to meet each other, there are plenty means of doing so. I think the problem for those that don't want to do something haraam is that we've been taught from an early age that "girls/boys are haraam, stay away". It's been drilled into us. So, we have. We end up going through years of schooling, not saying much to Muslim girls, or most girls. I've spent years in a college, where only one Somali girl said anything to me. It was pretty long while ago, and I still remember what was said.


Thing is, those who want to meet up, will. Parental knowledge doesn't really matter to em.

Alpha im not talking about those by choice not to meet any one, but those who are shy, conservative wouldnt want to date to see where the relation to go etc. but they set their mind " i want marry and i need to meet some one and that is my list or i can compromise this but not this and that!!

arabs, pakis and other muslims do have even here in doha.

edit: i learned from my mom that there is woman goes around with girls/men pictures and has big book goes around the neighbor to match make and by the way, she get paid for that .

From what I can tell, Somalis have a major problem with marriage. Marriage is the trendiest thing, everyone wants to do it, but no one is actually going about a way that seems proper, and includes all the steps necessary. Parents and imaams don't actually tell us how to get married, but that we should. Aside from the cold and awkward sittings in a masjid, there really is no facilitation for it. On top of this problem, knowing which method to choose (either going out on your own and socializing, asking parents, or a community service/center) is difficult enough as it is. There's no guarantee that any of these methods would be best. I've seen masjid marriages end in disaster, so personally speaking, something similar to that would be off-putting. Same can be said about other methods as well.

That big book idea seems interesting, but kinda dehumanizing. Seems like you're being bought. I'd never opt for that.

the masjids have started a matching drive in their respective areas. it has never amounted to anything big compared to fund raising, construction, schooling, and other fundamental aspects of dacwah. but it is being recognized and it has become a preferable method for a lot of couples. thumps up to some sister, who in their desire to stay clean and pure have taken the extra step of travelling abroad to get hooked. mashallah

well i understand no grantee in anything but i guess parents need to step in at young age and educate about marriage and responsibilities and what comes with. just education education and in the end is up to individuals that involved.

im not sure tho, there is right step by step. what some works for not necessarily works for others. my father told me once his dad told him to not marry!! i was like 8. i wasnt interested to ask why his father would tell him that!! in the end he went his way and married at age of 22 totally stranger small town yemani girl!!
