Hyper, it is odd that you missed the whole point of my thread. Read it again! You will see that I am also concerned about the disappearing of what you call "islamic names". Nowadays, our kids have weird names that seems to be based on the cast of cyber novels.

Waryaa, cimrigaaga raagey wadaad gaal ah oo Abdullah la dhahaayo uus ku tusaa.

Veiled; waan iska bedeli rabaa; I am thinking of Gacal or Lakad as a first name; what do you think?

The only "Muslim" names that exist are those referring service to Allah that are found in the Qur'an and Sunnah, "Abdullah" being the best of them. "Mohamed", "Ahmed", "Hassan", "Jaabir", etc, are not Muslim names, and neither are Raage, Shirwac, Sharmarke, etc.

ps; i wont make your mistake cause arabic is my first language and i know where you heading with all this. you only confusing your self adeer and people who dont have strong islamic and arabic history understanding :)
Hyper,    I am not heading anywhere (don't be like Alpha and Arabmann who see religion in everything people write; they accused me of being anti-wadaad for instance). I am first and foremost a somali ( I cannot change it) and as such I will love to promote somali name.

My dear friend, if you are equating islam with Arabs then you are wrong. There are more muslims who are non-arabs.

Mohamed is an islamic name; you will never find someone else with another religion called Mohamed. There are some other names which have islamic connotations . But, Hassan, Ibrahim, Abdullah are not islamic names.
I haven't accused you of anything, but simply pointed out a pattern. Which is also apparent here.

And no, I don't "see religion in everything people write".

lama i rereaded again. i dont think i missed your point but we seems seeing things in different angles.

you are concerned somali names and why many somalis think arabic names makes them close to islam/muslims. and i explained from my experience why people do and my family one of them. people name after islamic/muslim iconic just to hope their kids will take who they think better muslims than they are.

we are not disagreeing here, we just seeing different ways in one issue.

Hyper, waan gartay. Disagreements are good and the basis of a healthy discussion.

Veiled; my nickname was Lakad (stubborn) when I was a kid. Samatar saas uma fiicano. I will go with Gacal as my first name. Adigana consider "Kutubeey". I find that name to be very sexy.

Hyper,     You could tell the people in Iimey that those names belonged to the asxaabi. They will not know (except those who are xir)

Jokes aside, Calas is a common name in Wardheere all the way to Qabri dahare.
