He is dead, whats new.

Nonsense blablabla between Isaaq and hutus vs dooros.

Somehow the MSB, Caydiid, SNM discussions get old and boring.

Thuganomics wrote:Siad Barre, was the only head of state to attend Mozambique's independence celebrations.

MSB also sent martial reinforcements to assist the government of Samora Machel against Rhodesian and Portuguese forces. Rhodesian guerrillas in Maputo at the time "bragged to Portuguese correspondents that Somali tanks will be used in future operations against Ian Smith’s forces.

- In their struggle against the Rhodesians, Zambia appealed to other African countries for military support. On the 27th of June 1977, President Kenneth David Kaunda speaking to a crowd of Zambians in Lusaka announced that Somalia's armed forces were prepared to aid his country against the Rhodesians. Somali Air Force pilots stood on standby to fly Zambian Migs in case of a war.

MSB lent support to various anti-colonial movements, including the rebellion in South Africa against that country's then ruling apartheid government.

- As chairman of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) in 1974, a rotating seat, MSB invited the ANC as an equal member and gave them a platform to have their voices heard.

MSB also trained South African guerillas and gave them access to military hardware and naval assets

.(Sadly he also sent SA mercenary pilots to blow up HRG)
You were doing good untill the last comment. You deviated from your own tittle which is the GOOD THINGS ABOUT MSB (AUN).

When we were kings. :D

^^When the man in question was alive Ethiopia's political ambitions and dreams never never reached as far as the capital of Somalia. Today even the Kenyans developed a sudden hard-on for the motherland.

MSB was a leader amongst leaders, a giant amongst men and a finite. May Allah have mercy on him.

Siad Barre was a killer,he killed many somalis,he destroyed the country.

He made a huge mistake invading Ethiopia in 1977.

The invasion of Ethiopia brought destruction to Somalia.

He destroyed Hargeisa and killed many Issaqs men, women and children.

At the begining he made many positive things for Somalia but the Ogaden War(his greatest mistake) become Somalia in a hell on earth.

He underestimated the Ethiopian strenght and thought the ethiopian adventure would be an easy task but Mengistu a man more intelligent than him got Soviet and Cuban aid and changed the outcome of the war.

We must blame Siad Barre for the destruction of Somalia,he loves power very much and he killed many innocent people because he did not want to lose his important position in Somalia.

He renounced Somali claims to Ogaden region, this action was a treason for all somalis in the world.

If we go long the common narrative used by those who support the late Dictator, which is that Hargeisa/Burco/Berbera were bombed because the rebels were using the people as human shields. Can you tell me why the Jazeera massacre tuck place? Surely either these people were also rebels in Xamar and just like those up north had to be eleminated or they shared tribe with those up north which is why they were both targeted for this reason.

Lets not bullshit eachother, the Somali State was hijacked by the most reer miyi badow tribes of all the Somali tribes. This is what has lead to to its destruction. Those targeted were the most enlightened tribes who disagreed with the direction the state was heading.
You only have to look at the contrasting states of the tribes who benefited from the then Somali government and those who opposed it today. The MOD tribes are today occupied and have no sense of direction or leadership. They are in a constant war whith no ened in sight. The Ogaden are today occupied by Ethiopia and have fractured into different factions. Some supporting the occuption and another group fighting. The situation is so confused that you will find individuals on this forum who support both opposing sides.
The Marexaan are no different as they are also occupied by Al-shabab and their home region has been in a constant war for almost 20 years. They are today hoping for outside intervention to help them organise themselves into some sort of adminstration. Its remarkable how the tribe who had the most diplomats/generals/powerful businessmen are today rudderless with most of them in refugee camps.
The third tribe, The Dhulbahnte are occupied in their home region, split into different groups who are working for opposing stronger neighbors with zero regard for their own interests. The region they are from is the only part of northern Somalia thats still in a state of war.

In contrast the Isaaq's, Majerteens, and the Sacads have done a remarkable job of creating admins for their respected regions. They have minimal conflicts of which they deffuse very quickly and efficiently. These tribes are prospering without the aid of a national goverments.

though i really dont want to keep this topic alive, i just want to make a point, it is obvious that some (not all) supporters of the old fella want to speak highly of him, in order to indirectly state that their clan helped the country through him etc etc which is a pretty dull arguement seeing the situation of somalis today (minus the progress in MOG, hargeisa, bosaso).
