Grandpa,
Simple: TO be or not to be an American--that is the question. America is unlike any other western nation as you very well know, (or envious enough NOT to admit it- at least- loudly.) TO be an American, is a personal liberating beingness. One becomes inadvertently unshackled from the restraint of primitive culture and archaic mother tongue and assimilate into a culture of nationalism. One adopts the ONE-NESS that America offers. The greatest magna carter of human freedom. Countries like the UK, Sweden and to some extent Canada offer nothing but limitation as to your citizenship. You are shackled by class and lack of capitalism exploration in-opportunities. Your dreams killed and muzzled to your own ethnic community such as china or pakistani town. The moment you hit USA soil, u literally feel the uniqueness and inclusiveness of it. The hope and the freedom of mind, starkly removed from any other ethnic constraints. You become what a human ought to have become--a free, thinking arrogant, larges-que living -earthling. There is gutsyness and cockiness that is brilliant in our American mannerism. For example--the USA women swim team in Olympics refused to abandon their slut-ish skimpy exposing swim wear--out of the basis that they have worn it all their lives and will not be dissuaded into dressing up conservatively, in the name of 'just ' flimsy technicalities. That self entitlement and arrogance brought about by a way of life, a united nation, and a good use of capitalism--has brought about the very essence of our large-squeness that is a subject of envy all of the world. In simple, my dear Grandpa-- To be or Not to be an American--is a God ordained privilege-- not a wishful-one upon a time day dream. Eat your heart out- haterr!
