Abdi ismail our budget is 147 Million a year most of it goes to the Army and defense

How will you invest in agriculture or start manufacturing with such a small budget we live of port revenues and Livestock export

The best way to build a capable economy in Somaliland is start creating small factories of all kinds

We need proper investment in argiculture that can only come from abroad, what we also need is a second sea port

And therein lies the problem. If I was in charge, I would put the way we spend the money completely on it's head. At the top of my list would be education and health. I would invest in hospitals and clinics in all major cities as well as a clinic in the majority of countryside towns. I would spend a lot of money on primary education. The rest would be invested in water resource projects and agriculture.

i have a question.
why hasn't our government instiuted currency exchange controls.
Somalilands economy is 100% free with little control from the government.

Eritrea that had less foriegn currency than Somaliland was able to buy Mig-29 and other expensive stuff, like cargo ships,#and construct most of its own road and rail systems by controlling its currency.

the dollarizaton of our economy and weak currency is not helping.
being stronger than the Somali currency is not enough.

I like to think of S/L as of chaotic, unorganized, inefficient and democratic - kind of like some sort of African classical Athens (without the cultural achievements of course). We must be the only country in the world that has to ask it's citizens to pay their taxes on billboards.
