MSB rose up to make Darood a force in Somalia yet when it came down to defending him, it was only the Marexan who stood by his side. After 1991, the mantle of leadership was snatched by the Majeerten who did very little for the Darood struggle. Caydiid rose up to make Hawiye a force only to find himself at war with a lackey like Ali Mahdi and the Hawiye mantle was snatched by the Abgaal who until late in the game were ProMSB but switched sides after MSB armed the Galgale (co-opted by the MJs as Nux Maxamud) to kill them. Cabdirahman Tur rose up and did a lot for the Issaq only to be sidelined by those who did not enter the struggle until they saw the scales tip towards SNM's favor. The same MSB loyalists were the ones that chanted Somaliland the loudest and recreated history to show they were in the struggle and hide the fact they were informers for the regime.
