dee waa iska self explanatory, the word Daye means looking from the distance and hence it should mean outskirts of a city.

So, why on earth would you guys call it Xamarta? Did it first come from Xamar and that is why you are referring it as such?![]()
Anyhow, arabs call it Tamar Hindi literally means Indian Dates and till this day I have no clue why...
Yeah that's what we call it too, tamar el hind= tamarind. The English word is probably arabic in origin I think.
EDIT
Just wikied it, Tamarind is romanised from the Arabic word Tamar Hind.

Haddiise ay tidhi "Ha is murgin" waxaa weeye, ha is caloolxumeyn ama ha is murugeyn.....

Re: What do you say in English?
How did I miss this? So Qaldaan wiifs call raqay Xamari? Focking crazy Walaahey. And remember I spent sometime in Galbeed and thought I heard it all....
Well, when I was in elementary school, may be third grade, our Qaldaan teacher wanted us to help him move few small items. Three of us were called in for the service. Remember for a low salaried teacher moving meant moving couple of cookware, tea ware, couple of plates, and some sheets and couple of mattresses. And the items were moved to a room on the opposite side of the same street. He kept asking us "Xoodkha ma ku filan tihiin". Not knowing what he was talking about, we pretended we never heard him. He then looked at time in the eyes and in really angry tone said "Aaabihii wasahan dhagaha waa weyn baa ugu madax adag". I was so frustrated because I had no idea. Well, he then pointed to a small baby crib at the far end of the room. Ileen reer Qaldaamiintu sariirta ilmaha waxay yiraahdaan "Xoodh".
