If there is any prolonged stability in the south (ie consolidation of power by the TFG), this would in some ways affect S/lands ability to convince the "international community" (ie U.S. & co) about the viability of an independent somaliland alongside Somalia. They will likely be told to ask for an autonomous region, which i think is the closest Somaliland can get to independence.

However, as time goes on, the shaky ground Somaliland is built on will be tested if the ascent of the TFG continues, as tribes begin to squabble amongst each other (see recent S.land election) for power.


All in all, the best time for Somaliland to cash in on their "independent" caravan maybe know. If they refuse to attend the British conference, I would call them Libaaxyaal.

Becoz we wanted to run our own business and get away from Somalia , right ?
Now 20 years later , just because Great Britain has opened an embassy in Mog or the int community seem to give Somalia a greater attention , do you think we're just overnight going to turn on a dime and join Somalia again ?
Somalia HAS NOT DONE ANYTHING TANGIBLE ON the political spectrum yet .
Why shoud we join ? out of love ? we do not hate you because we've done it once already .
