I wouldn't know that, but thanks. Based on her post though, I thought she was out there in the market and disappointed with Somali males. Other facts about her I gleaned from her post: She has a degree, works and supports her family. You know saxib, when people write something, they give themselves away too and who they are comes across so easy.

That is why I replied to her with what I said.

There are many Somali men who are marrying non Somalis too. For example, my brother is married to a Danish woman and my cousin recently waxa loo doonay an Algerian girl. I think interracial marriages are a risk, the two people will probably experience a cultural conflict at some point in their marriage.

Nevertheless, If you really believe you can manage that, then why not. Get some education, shaqayso and marry whoever you like (as long as they are Muslim).

Lillaahiya wrote:Why is there a gender gap in education and profession? Is it because Somali men don't value education as much as Somali women?
Somali men value many things but seeking constant reassurance and approval for our level of literacy is not one of it.

Lillaahiya wrote:Do Somali men lack motivation or desire?
Depends on how you define success, but I assure you money is a bad motivator.

Lillaahiya wrote:Or do Somali men face more obstacles that prevent them from obtaining a diploma/degree or job?
I hate to disappoint you but Somali men are not the content of their wallet, in fact most men are kind of allergic to golddiggers.
Lillaahiya wrote:Perhaps women pursue diplomas/degrees that lead to gendered occupations which may be in higher demand (nursing, teaching, etc) while their male counterparts study fields that may not necessarily lead to a job right away (economics, chemistry, mathematics, etc)?
Well we can't all be nurses now can we? Besides I'm sure learning Civil Engineering might come handy in a war-torn country like Somalia.

Hmmm, I should either care who a person marries or I'm insecure......tough choices, but I will still go with not giving a shit. :pac:

First time I've ever agreed with you.

From my personal experience, Somali women married to foreigners are first shunned by their family and community, pop out a few abominations, get divorced within a few years, and end up ostracized and viewed as damaged goods.

I could never imagine marrying someone outside my nationality! Marriage in itself is hard work so why would you add another culture into the mix, thats just a recipe for disaster. The prophet (pbuh) said love for your brother what you love for yourself and most of these halimos who are acting all "team ajnabi" all wanna end up with a farah anyways so why would you recommend non-somali to your sisters only to discover what you already know "that all men are the same" regardless. I rather take my risk on a somali guy and throw him his baac madow if he does me wrong rather than loose myself with ajnabi, just saying!

Are there as many nurses as civil engineers in our community?

To assure a public forum that you don't care who a Somali girls marries, then go off and say something spiteful/passive aggressive like "just don't come back when you're divorced"/"you're gonna get beaten to a pulp"/"who needed you? Just one less skeez"/"There isn't a shortage of girls so fuck off"/etc would suggest that you do feel threatened, hence insecurity.

I still think those are some solid questions to address in the pursuit of a solution.

I am not bothered as long as it's not a relative and they don't bring Jamaican, Nigerian, Romanian kids to our lands back home. Nowadays Halimos even
marry Gypsies.
