That middle ground is exactly what I was talking about and advocating for. Help the person get back on their feet then call it a day.

But I am not sure how much of a difference 3 months would make in terms of getting a steady income.

Hyper, who gets the kids?

ooh jasmine that is another headache in islamic family court! they keep changing it cause of what is good for kids.

but in general rolling if kid is under 7 wife can take care of it and guys pay the expenses what he could, rich pay more and poor what judge sees is reasonable. depends each society what is reasonable. no set amount or percentage.

some say, after age of 7 kid has option who they want to live in front of judge. the strange, girl preferable to live with father in many scholars opinion than a boy.

if she remarried, she looses the custody. father is prime care giver, and they can visit their mom. unless, he gave up his rights and say, she can have kids but im not paying child support. which he can do it.

That seems reasonable assuming of course there is still visitation. Damn divorce sucks.

in my experiences i haven't seen much problems about visitations. if they live with mother, they go school holidays live with father and weekends/ holidays etc. but most guys give up their rights to just get away to not paying child support.

i dont think many women have problem with custody. many guys dont want to be prime care giver, i mean where i live. unless ino 3anadayo his ex.

Jasmine6 wrote:The assumption is that a spouse has been out of employment and provided support at home hence why they would be awarded alimony and yes it works both ways. If the person was gold digging and had no ambition like I said then it's different. Lifetime alimony is also unfair (unless there is absolutely no hope of the other person ever being able to get back into work i.e. borderline retirement).
But wouldn't this 'alimony' be covered by the meher though? Which you would pay after the divorce if you didn't already? That isn't alimony.
And to answer your question, yes. Assuming he didn't do anything unforgivable
If you're going to get a divorce  Anything he did would be classified as unforgivable. Ninka waad nacday ee lacag maad siistayn.

Hyper: During the 3 months after the divorce, a woman can't get remarried, which is why I'm assuming her ex has to financially support her. After that, she goes back to her family who are responsible for her again. Am I correct?

What Hyper said is more like alimony (a temporary one), mehr is part of the marriage contract, it's Somalis who treat it as part of the divorce package.

 not always and to different extents. Sometimes it's because you grew apart, want different things, can't get along with each other's families etc. If he abused you or cheated on you then that would be unforgivable but not all divorces are because of things like this.

Jas: There's 2 parts to a meher. One part is to cover a divorce or death if I'm not mistaken.

means, wan ko so Eliyey, back to you .

lailayiha, is culturally, the mahar to be 2 part, first and last. or upfront or mo'akhar.

some woman want compensation after divorce and they write in marriage contract. that is nothing to do with marriage validation.

you can name number and give all in once and get over with it. otherwise deyn ombey ninka ko tahay. if he dies, before they split inherit, she has to given her mahr.
