You know the diin better than I do, but from what I understand most Somali marriages (the ones that go this route) aren't Islamically valid.

well, inahadeths, you have to give the woman even silver ring! means you have to give her something. but how he cannot afford mahr? cause mahr isnt set amount. is whatever man can afford that woman agrees. even if he affords $100 he has to give her. why to agree something you cannot afford?

i only heard somalis agree mahr as tofaah, or teach me quran, give me kitab etc. which is valid if both sides agree but the whole point is the woman to get financial gain.
