The innate pride of being ethnically Somali

So how is it innate when the Somali sense of pride chiefly rises from the manner in which he/she was raised? Can a Somali raised in other society or by non-Somali still maintain this trait, simply by the blood that runs through his/her veins?...or did hyper already clarify this

Also, I think there's a bit of confusion between pride and dignity.. the balance between the 2 is easily disturbed.

It is innate, the fact that Somalis have been known for this since the first people to ever come across Somalis is evidence enough. As for the balance, I agree with you.

LamaG I disagree. I highly doubt that the Japanese or Chinese or Indians or Arabs look up to Swedes and their cousins. Perhaps in the West but the world's bigger than that.

I highly disagree brother Lamgoodle. Scandinavian countries have a myriad of societial ills and psychological problems, including high suicide rates, rife assisted-suicide & euthanasia, and most disturbingly a norm of childhood molestation & sexual abuse. I am addicted to Scandi crime dramas and you never see one without a main character or two having a childhood history of molestation which somehow sheds light on why they are portrayed the way they are in that programme.

lol LamaG I think you tie pride with material possessions. You can't buy it. A person may want to take that ceer or make use of those opportunities, the question is do they think Scandinavian culture is better than their own?



When you're hanging out with people who do not know you, you could get away with saying you are of a lot of different ethnicities, Dominican, Ethiopian, Eritrean, heck even Brazilian, Arab. Do you/would you do it?

Arabs are no different to Asians or White people to me.


On a separate note, I have met a few people whose mothers were Somali and they were raised by their mothers. These folks, although not technically classed as Somali, are ironically more attached to their Somalinimo.
