The biggest reason of being Single-mums is to get benefit. I wish the Government introduces you get what you earn policy. No benefit, no nonsense.

Re: somalis are the biggest single mothers
I don't think it's milking the system that is the problem. Everybody does it (apart from me) and I would encourage it. The taxes in this country are ridiculous. Just look at the Houses of Westminister, almost all of the politicians and leaders are tax-dodgers, multiple home-owners and benefit fraudsters. It is the nature of the deceit that is the problem. How can you claim to be divorced, single, or have boyfriends for a little bit of money? Why would you sink so low? You are effectively making your childdren bastards and setting a poor example.

Don't forget guys that Somalis abroad 60% of them are under 25 years old. We are the youngest immigrants when it comes to age.
But I agree this single mother thing is a disgrace. If you are Islamically married you should tell your local government.

Re: somalis are the biggest single mothers
although this is true, there are still many single-parent households. I think out of all the cousins on my father's side, only one actually lived with their father. Everyone else was raised by a single mother. Either divorced or separated. Or in some cases, living in another country and never around.Methylamine wrote:A lot of families claim to be divorced/single mother status so that they can get extra benefits from the government. Somalis in welfare states are professionals at milking the system

I don't think the numbers are that inaccurate. How many Somalis do you know actually were raised in a household with 2 parents?XimanJaale wrote:Don't forget guys that Somalis abroad 60% of them are under 25 years old. We are the youngest immigrants when it comes to age.

Yes, most Somali women are married when they give birth but they pretty much always raise the children by themselves. I really don't know many Somalis who had their father around for most of their lives. As a result, we're not technically bastards since our parents were married, but we are largely the product of single parent households in the sense that fathers are rarely around.

I don't know about your family and extended family. But most of my cousins and relatives all have both their parents living together. I don't come from a low class family or don't have those khat addict relatives. Usually it is the Northerners (Isaaq, Dhullos, Warsans, Gadabuursi) that have family breakdowns because of their khat culture.MaliPrince wrote:

I can't speak for all Somalis. But from all the ones I have seen and know they all have their parents living together. Afcourse occasionally one of their parents usually the father goes abroad to Somalia, Kenya etc for business or second wife but usually those fathers are in their 60's.

Re: somalis are the biggest single mothers
you guys are seriously making it a bigger deal than it is (especially name-calling parents inay yihiin dad garac uun dhala, wal ciyaadu billaah!). A lot of you are assuming nonesence which you then extrapolate & exaggerate to mean seriously bad things, ilaahiina ka cabsada!
You're not taking into account the situation that most 1st generation Somali immigrants found themselves in once they entered. Then people would complain "yeah but look at how long they've been here since then & then, and they still don't have proper jobs, or don't speak the language" etc etc. We're not established, we don't build community networks, we came from war zones, etc - there is a long list of what we don't have in order to qualify for these things we lack in the first place. If our parents learnt to survive by doing a certain thing (which I do NOT condone), who's to say that is xaraam entirely or in ay diinta kabaxeen ama in ay ciyaalkoodu garac yihiin? Allah doesn't judge things like that, He looks at your conditions. If you did what L-Hydrogen outlined that the ministers of this country do (meaningless motiveless fraud) then it becomes an issue.
