kamal, the magazine has a huge muslim readership. however, most muslims who read are not affected by fgm... because most muslims don't practice this. it is mainly in africa. egypt, somali, sudan, ethiopia, etc... and a lot of non-muslim nations.

i'm working with a group of human rights organizations to bring out a magazine dedicated to the african woman. i'm hoping through such venue we can tackle the issue of fgm. in the mean time, we have written about fgm in huriyah in the past (a few times actually.) and we always get horrified e-mails from muslims who don't even know what it is.

i wrote another article on the arrested imam for another magazine in spain called quÃƒÂ© magazine... which is very cool. i have gotten hundreds and hundreds of responses about that. i pretty much said that the spanish people were correct to outst the fucccking idiot Smile

Afdhere: You should be in contact with Manuel Villar Raso, a Spanish writer who yesterday released the book "Being an African Woman" (not translated into English yet)--->"Ser mujer en ÃƒÂfrica". Brilliant, really brilliant book, which analizes everything about Africa: the role of women, the colonialism, the Western empires, the way Africa is the richest continent in the World and the way it's been expoliated, the poverty in Africa in order to keep the richness in the Western world, the analphabetism, the poor cultural traditions in which, while women are some kind of super-heroes in order to keep their families, they have no rights and males are superiors by Islamic and Christian laws to females, etc.

I interviewed him last Sunday and he was fantastic. He's 60 years old and he spent the half of his life living in Africa and knowing cultures from Mali to Somalia, Sudan, Senegal, Nigeria, etc. You should make a research about Manuel Villar Raso. Worthy to read. The book "Ser mujer en Africa" is just... wonderful.

i would love to interview him. yes, the african woman has been ignored for a long time. unfortunately, even the women's rights organizations ignore african women... as if they are immune to violation... or as if they don't deserve it.
