Minnesota Somalis= Half Fob, Half Americanized. Somalis there also own plenty of businesses, and there are many successful Somalis who are based out in Minneapolis. Plenty of community outreach groups, masjids, and other social venues for the Somalis who live there. Very friendly people for the most part. Darood dominated.

I hate when people chat sh1t about the UK, when most of them have not even been to the UK.
So...

Canada - Sell outs, act more black then Somalis. Alcoholics, No religion.
USA - Hardworking people, religious, but again not a lot of people with Somali culture.
Europe - Party heads, no religion, Alcoholics. Very well educated people
Arab - Snobbish people, like to fellow and act like rich Arabs.

UK

London - Very laidback lifestyle, religious, very strong Somali community and culture.
Birmingham - Very, very, very religious.
Sheffield - Galjire city
Cardiff - Well educated, very conservative.
Leicester - Immigiration city.
Liverpool - Seamen, criminals

I've been to the UK, and I felt like I was somewhere in Pakistan, or Mumbai or Nairobi. Too many Ajanabis who were rude, inconsiderate and just plain out nasty.

The Somalis I met there were no different. They are tuugo. I went to a Somali Xawaalad trying to exchange my American dollars for UK pounds and they short changed me for $100.

Everything is very expensive and if they find out u are not a local, they would price gouge you.

I went to different Somali sisha and restaurants and all the Somalis there were just hopeless and had no future or shaqo. I left that country depressed and flew back home.

I agree Somalis from they UK are not as hardworking as those in North America and Europe. But if you think about they have everything ready for them.
Free welfare benefits, free healthcare, free housing, free education, cheap public transport that go everywhere, large Somali community, large Muslim community...
They have it all layed out for them. But the younger generations in the UK are doing very well compared to other ethnic communities and somalis in the rest of the world. They are well educated, especially the girls, Somali culture and community is still there, and religion.

You cannot compare Somalis in Canada to those in the UK or US for that matter. In the UK, you are closer to Somalia (in proximity) and are the oldest African immigrants there, and in the US the bulk of you haven't been there very long. I was born there in the mid-80s and back then there were only a few, but I was raised in Toronto and I don't fall under any of the pejoratives that you mentioned. Bare in mind, I'm not a fan of herds. I also, think you are greatly generalizing. Then again, this is snet. It's known for that sort of thing.

Here in America, a large number of Somalis are property owners or business owners and don't depend on ceyr. When I was there, I didn't see one single Somali who owned guryo.

The new generation of Somalis here in the UK are making some progress, but the youths themselves come in two extremes either those who have made it and have prospects and those whom are filling jails. But thankfully things are for the most part changing for the better.
Although most Somalis are more or less similar in the west, from what i heard and read though is that there is contrast in North America, the Somalis from Canada are trouble and unsuccessful whereas the ones in the United States are more successful in making use of opportunities, business savvy and integrated. But reading this thread and others most of the problems seem to lie with reer Toronto.

Have you guys actually seen the UK? Our houses are the size of your kitchens and bathrooms in US/Canada. They also cost ten times more than the average US/Canadian home. UK is an old country with old infrastructure and is like a million times smaller than either US or Canada. Not to mention it has twice the population of Canada. Don't compare UK somalis to the rest, especially not sii bakhti Canadian Somalis.

Just take a look within this thread and you'll see what type of generalizations and stereotypes people have of reer Canada. Then again Ottawa is a smaller city and perhaps thats why its easier to manage the community as a whole.

The fact that it's a smaller city makes it easier for Somalis to succeed here than in Toronto. Toronto has an extremely saturated job market and a ridiculously high cost of living, which push Somali families into run-down low income housing, turning the kids into monsters. Over here you'll see Aabos who are bus drivers owning houses in the suburbs because they can afford it with their salaries, something you can't do in Toronto since houses are so expensive.

There are 2 answers to your question.
1. People in the UK don't need to buy houses because they government supplies that
2. There are a lot of Somali home owners in the UK, but what they do is first get a council house, they buy it back from the government.
3. London has the most expensive house prices in the world. Only behind Monaco.

Average house price for a 3 bedroom house in Minneapolis is $222,500 = £146,908.32
Average house price in the UK is £279,985 = $423772.70.
The average house in the UK cost double the average house in the USA.

I've been to the US Virginia and DC. Nearly all the Somalis work and drive there, even the old ladies.
They make more money than the average person in the UK.
But who is paying more bills?
And who is saving more money?

Although the Somalis in the UK claim welfare benefits a lot, they got a lot of savings. Which is why most of the biggest investors back home are from the UK.
People in the UK have a different mentality to those in North America. The Somalis in the UK want to take their money and invest it back home, but the Somalis in North America want to stay and spend their money. Its 2 different world, one group id trying to fit in the white man society and the other is staying put, and staying true to its Somali origins and Religion.
