Have you been back to kili5 recently? :lol: Even I have a lot of fluent amharic speakers in my family.

But don't forget in Somalia English, Italian, and Arabic were the languages kids learned in. My mom was totally taught in Arabic in secondary school. In Mogadishu, people were taught in Italian for university.
I left 1996. Back them there were few axmaaro to intemingle with. Now with decline of ONLF, more ethiopians feel safe enough to settle in Jigjiga.

I only understand the last line, inorder to get the gist the following words gotta be translated; sugaanta(waiting?) wadiiqada habboob, wagac. Those words threw me off lol

:mindblown: We somalis are naysayers; we complain and critique everything without an ounce of thought.

We should celebrate the topic of the thread; our people, nation, language and culture are down for the counting. The somali language is more than the SDR. It is what unites us. Now, we have two somali presidents who after decades of morass have taken the first step to establish a regional academy for the somali language and we complain?

Wawgiisa Gabaygiyo, Starting the poem with "W"
Haddaan, war iyo sugaanta, If I, news and literature
Waa inaan wadiiqada haboon, I have to go through the best road
Wagac ku siyaaye, I have to hit it (wagac is an action)
Waa inaan wixii aan ogahay, waano (I have to what I know, give advice)
mariyaaye

Here is my best translation:
Starting with W poem, (Using the construct W to deliver my poem)
If I question the [body] literature,
I have to use the best approach,
Hit it on it's head (get to heart of it)
Use whatever knowledge I have, and give
the best advice.

Sug= wait
Suugaan= collective Somali word for songs and poetry

wadiiqo = path
as opposed to
Wado = road

Haboon= best method-good way- most practical etc etc

I tried direct translating it like PO but it made no sense lol

Using/beginning withthe letter W
Let me talk about Suugaanta
I'll take the best path
And get straight to it
I'll tell/advice you what I know of it
To the best of my knowledge

Here is a snippet more of that gabey
Bare waxa ku waajiba inuu, ubad
waxbarayaaye
Arday waxa ku waajiba inaw, qalin
walwaalaaye
Ummad waxa ku waajiba inay,
wadajir heemaasho
Wasiir waxa ku waajiba inuu yahay,
wakiil sugane
Wargays waxa ku waajiba inaw,
waasic wax u sheego
Wilgo waxa ku waajiba inay, wadar
ciyaartaaye
Afartaa wanaag iyo waxsheeg, waano
iyo weer dheh
Waxba gabaygu yaw ila tagine, waxan
ku soo waabey
Qofba wixi ku waajiba inaw, wado
ayaa roone.

Replace as many foreign loan words as possible and standardise certain words, i DON'T have time to use 3 different names for one Particular fish type.

Close to 3 decades of anarchism on a people who have never once united in their life, can lead to 24/7 calacaal.
