Grumpy,

Let's keep the topic as the girl intends to.

Hargeisa came long way but lacks vision, governance, order, diversity, gender equality for example girls enter restaurants from small unofficial door and I hate that...one day I was with my sister and we went to Nasiibo or whatever you know the little juice and burger bar and she left me. Wtf was the point sending time with loved ones only to be segregated by tribalist religious zealots with sh!ty joint?

That places makes no sense at times and I understand the frustration by the author.

Fcuk Hargeisa needs a lot of change and not just buildings but cultural revolutionary and its still the most civil of all Landers  . I have no intentions to see beyond her.

Allah have mercy on Goljaano. Been to Hargeisa three times in my life.

If you think Hargeisa is bad, wait till you get to Burco! The people there are something else wallahi. If you don't dress like them, be loud and foul-mouthed you're asking for trouble especially if you don't take sides when there is a neighborhood brawl, i.e a dispute concerning youths from Xaafada tawali vs Suuq galbeed. These riots are an every day occurrence, where teenagers throw rocks at each other before being locked up by scruffy soldiers with machine guns.

I stayed there for 2 months. It felt like a year. For the first couple of weeks, people kept on staring at me everytime I went the local masjid to pray or the cornershop/hovel mean before asking me whether I was from the UK/Canada/US in a rude and obnoxious manner.

I only stayed in Hargeisa for a week but let me tell you this, it was heaven compared to Burco. Don't go there.

Why don't they(Somaliland and other African countries) just get all these idle men teach them how to build and develop their nation?

Instead of paying them just offer them three meals and water.

I'm glad some of you are seeing what I'm saying. Menace, yea I actually wrote in my first sentence that I will get use to it. I hate the transition though.

Hawdian, is that you?? WELCOME back! And yes, the segregation is necessary because these thirsty skinnies need to stare at women passing by as if we owe them something. Its not fair to our brothers, I agree.

A cultural revolution is indeed necessary.

I know that Hargeisa is vastly different from what it was in the 90s, but most of that development is recent. And someone please tell me that the government is responsible. Because they aren't! It seems like business owners built this city.

Lilly, even here, xabashis are the best stylists. Like everything else, Somalis just aren't that good with our hands lol

Grumpy, I lived in Burco for 8 months in 2006. People here acting like I'm overreacting. I know exactly what you're saying

Yes, we have water but we have to wait for biyaha inu soo daco once a week... :wtf:

Without recognition Hargeisa will never be on par with a Ethiopian city, especially Addis Ababa.

I personally believe Hargeisa has reached its limit and any growth from here will be a huge struggle that could bring the whole town to its knees.

I believe it will not handle more than another 100,000 or maximum 300,000.

The main reasons for these are;

1) Poor planning
2) Water scarcity
3) Power challenges
4) Sewage and other key infrastructures.

Really if it reaches 2 million and goes a week without water and electricity mayhem------I will salute Hargeisa. I personally don't see it much happening there and will soon stall.

The underground system and its small pipes will not support the town and won't be long before people think smart and decide to abandon Hargeisa.

The entire SL are crowding themselves in Hargeisa and that's due to the absence of government that diversifies growth, investment, funding and resources. Everything happens in Hargeisa and so everyone wants to be where the action is. The rest of the country is like Chernobyl including Berbera.

This is where puntland is different. All 3 cities are thriving population wise due to equal economic opportunities in all. Bosaso the port city is the commercial capital most business is there. Garoowe is the political capital. Everything from government institutes to every ngo has headquarters here. Galkacyo is the only thriving city in the centre of somalia as everything around it is deserted from across central Somalia. People come all the way from ethopia for galkacyo. There's no overpopulated city or water shortages. All the cities are developing in terms of infrastructure with equal population growth.Plus garoowe has some of the best town planning. Somaliland has a lot to learn from its neighbour.
