Xildiid, you have to understand, it wasn't an equal union as you like to point out. When the British flag came down in Hargeisa in 26th May, 1960 and the Somali one was hoisted, the Waqooyi political dynamics didn't exist.

The whole independence movement from the British and the Italians was led by SYL (in other words, by us). I really doubt the Waqooyis in 1960 were politically active, or even knew what was happening at the time.

So this whole 'we were a country before you' is just mute and stupid.

Another thing, lets say this whole Ictiraaf movement doesn't work out? Then what is the plan then?

I don't need to understand your revision because it's baseless.

I already explained to Sahal that the SYL had zero impact in Somaliland. During the parliamentary elections of Somaliland (February, 1960) they received 5,7% of the votes compared to the SNL that received 52,2%.

The first Pan Somali organization in Somaliland was created in 1945 and it was this organization that later evolved into the political party of SNL. So the idea that politics or Pan Somalism was absent from Somaliland is ridiculous.

Somaliland was the first Somali country to gain independence, it might be hard to accept but that's the truth.

We will never abandon our position. The end goal is to regain the long lost sovereignty of Somaliland.

This whole argument is pointless.

But what makes it even more depressing is going back and forth about who the colonisers first acknowledged.

Using the revised history of the union will make no difference to Somaliland. Nor will it solve all the problems the south is facing currently. For the life of me I cannot understand why southerners think they can hold on to somaliland because its not recognized. A recognition on its own does not make a country but the people and their achievements is what makes a country.

Southerners believe they're the sole legitimate representatives of the Somali people. Another Somali state with the name Somaliland would challenge their narrative.

Djibouti calls itself Djibouti and therefore maintains a seperate identity, that's why they accept Djibouti.

Wax kale maaha, waa xaasidnimado. Iyagii baan nolol isu ogoleyn, wax kale iska daaye.S

Jalaaludiin, you're lucky that you're an Isaaq from Djibouti/Ethiopia. You never had to deal with these people. You could swim in the Red Sea and then eat your escargots in peace

Xildiid.

This false notion that "Somalia" speak for and represent any state that carry the name SOMALI is almost like a mental disorder. It doesn't matter how many times the record is set straight about the history of the union or the fact that there was two different colony....that name SOMALIA always get the better of them which lead to this sense of entitlement in anything somali.

To mediate between Southerners as I was born there, and Northerners as I'm a proud one.

Somali land was an independent nation ruled by Britain which gained in independence if the people wished they could have been their own country, but the people of the north sacrificed it for Somali wen . All Somalis were feeling the same way about uniting.

But all I know is Somaliyeey toosay is the Somali National anthem wrote by Ali mire cawale, the blue flag was decided upon by both sides to be the national flag as the national capital was agreed upon to be mogadishu. Qolaba calankeeda is the flag song I think.
