LiquidHydrogen,

Look at Japan...all they needed was a scientific revolution and industrialisation to be where they are now. Studying economists Vs studying economics....study economics (numbers, patterns, stock etc). The gaalo erased every foreign influence they had, and make their mark as Americans, Westerners etc, we need to climb out of their backsides or they might as well have converted us to Christianity during colonisation....our African neighbours are destitute because they have no thinkers who think independently from the gaalo, they rule them politically and economically because of their resistance to to independent thought.

BTW, I'm not advocating we copy other people's culture. In fact, I want the opposite. I want an indigenous Somali cultural Renaissance. I don't want us to perform Shakespeare, I want us to perform Hadraawi. I don't want a Einstein, I want a Somali theoretical physicist. I don't want Michael Angelo, I want a Somali sculpture and architect who uses traditional Somali design and architecture. The problem is we don't have a Somali equivalent of Plato or Mozart because we don't value abstract philosophy or orchestrated music. I don't want us to copy, I want us to be at the forefront of cultural and technological innovation. Unfortunately, we aren't even at the level of pre-industrial Europe, we're so far behind the rest of the world.
ooh, it get ya. i agree.

But yeah there isnt much we can do with that until the core and the foundation is fixed, Which is back home. People will be paralyzed and forever stagnant

But We do have every right to be optimistic about it, cuz There is huge potential.

I am the least educated in my family and the most outgoing - they don't go to forums to brag about their achievements; they have masters and PhD in sciences, technology, education and Pharmaceutical and in health. My husband to be is also well educated (won't say in what though) also my extended family from both side most of them have degrees.
So Somalis are not lacking education - just unity.

Kibir on this thread quite is amusing. You're tired of being the smartest person in the room, yet you can't find the solution to this simple problem. Well it was simple, till the theme changed to lets find the next Somali Mozart, Socrates etc

I don't claim to be the smartest person in a room, just the most interesting.

How do you know I have no solutions? Before we can cure an illness, we must first admit we are sick and come to terms with it. I am also not in any position to apply my solutions in the real world.

Haa, he was obviously sarcastic. I was bit surprised when you replied, maxaad u jeedaa.
I have seen you discuss and ask questions about development issues, economics, international politics and current global geopolitical issues, I guess those fields attract your interest!

 That's why I was caught off-guard, at first I thought it was sarcasm but then I felt sorry for GG so I gave her the benefit of the doubt. Tbh, I like GG. She's earnest and down-to-earth - traits I admire in a female.

Yes I am interested in a wide variety of topics and subjects. If I had the choice and money, my dream would be to open up the world's largest library, museum, theatre and art gallery back home and just spend the rest of my life writing, reading and studying.

The only reason developmental economics and politics interest me is because I've always wanted to help make Somaliland/Somalia powerful rich nations - but that is as likely as Unicorns being found in the Hawd. Still, I want to do my bit. I'm more interested personally, in mathematics, literature, physics/cosmology, logic and philosophy.

to be honest i wasnt being sarcastic.
i can tell that GG is holding back ...

maybe you guys were put off by her anti SL rant earlier.

sometimes intellectualism could be useless,
like moi for instance, having so many ideas and thoughts is useless if you do not translate it into action..

Since when did Intellectualism become positive in terms of culture?
Plato considered his age as the worst age of Greek civilisation (according to modern historiography greek golden age was during plato times)

Anybody that is familiar with philosophy knows Intellectualism is associated with degenerate societies at the peak of their culture.
We need to learn to love our traditional wisdom, and I underline love and wisdom in this sentence because that is the trick in philosophy, after all, philosophy means love of wisdom.

If we go by the historiography of ibn khaldun, Spengler and Toynbee, I will say: Our future is brighter (not ethically but knowledge and temporal wise) than our past.
The german philosopher jean gebster would be a great read for those that are interested in consciousness and civilisations.

somalis can outarchieve western people within a 100 years, they only require, vision, will to power and technics

who ever synthesises accumulated human knowledge will master the future, after all, according the hegel that is what the west is all about.

I have more hope in somali nomadic and religious peoples then I have with secular somalis in the diaspora.
