You're finding words that sounds similar but have completely different meanings! Wad has nothing to do with the pagan God of the people of Noah AS! Hubaal is not the Qurayshi pagan God "hubal"!

The two sides agree on one thing: Waaq was worshipped by Somalis, especially in areas close to Oromo and Borane ppl. Was it a pagan religion or the right one at the time b4 Islam? After many debates here on snet, i am still not convinced by either side.

A few things:

Waaq=God=Allah in the Oromo language and its many offshoots. Oromo muslims, Christians and animists invoke the word “Waaq” to describe their almighty.

Simple.

Qaalu= learned ones. Religious leaders. Again, this is the word to describe the clergy. Islamic scholars are called Qaalu. There is a town in Somalia called Ceel qaalu/Ceel waaq: the well of God/allah; the well of the clergy.

A brief historic lesson:
There were according to many scholars a powerful Hamitic people (probably Oromo origin) who were the masters of some of the Somali territory of today. They were called the “Galla”. The etymology of this word is still debated; a) camel b) atheist/animists c) a tribal name.

What is known is that this people spoke one of the many dialects of the Oromo. Their Allah/god/God was called Waaq.
Caabudwaaq, Ceelwaaq , Ceel qaalu etc are footprints of their existence in Somalia. Gaalkacyo too.

In summary, the word Waaq=Allah=god. If you go to mosques in Ethiopia/Kenya, Waaq is used as synonymous to Allah/Rabi/Ilaahey/Macbuudbka etc.


A BLV IN WAAQ is the same as a BLV in Allah.

That being said, I think Lama made it clear that Waaq could very be Allah in local language.

Just like we Somalis refer to Allah as Eebe or in the old Hebrew language they referred Allah as Ab or father hence the root meaning of Rab is Ab which again means father or Eebe in Af Somali.

Either way as long as one recognizes the Oneness and true ONE God, the names in which people use in their language to describe the Almighty does not much matter
