no matter how much you pray, fast , go to haj, how much you know about islam and you lie about welfare and cheating!! how people do not question that!! why in our communities is acceptable and not shaming them as long they do all that and wear hijab?? but once a girl or female wears pants hell froze and islam ka bey jeebka kala so bahayan!!

I am done long time ago.

I just wish that Somali society had more justice, decency and benevolence. I will give you some examples that have caused me to lose faith in Somali society.

Example 1. A Somali girl is walking home from the shop in the evening. She is raped by a Somali man. He runs off and his Somali family hides him, they support him financially and logistically. She is pregnant and bears a child for him. She is 'disgraced', has no prospects of marriage and is shunned by the society and family. Her father and uncles eventually get compensation from the rapist's family. The girl is forced to marry her rapist, evicted from her family home and made to live with her rapist. This is the norm. What about justice? What about punishment? What about decency?

Example 2. Two Somali men have an altercation in the street. It escalates and man 1 shoots man 2. The murderer flees the city with the logistical, financial and emotional help of his family. Meanwhile the victim's male relatives then arm up and kill 2 innocent brothers of the shooter in revenge, making their children orphans and their wives widows. This is common. There is no recourse to justice or law.

Example 3. A Somali woman lives with her abusive husband who beats her for years. One day he goes crazy and stabs her 19 times because she went to feed their newborn child instead of making him dinner. He stabbed her multiple times in the gut, in her arms, in her face, he cut off her ears. He left her for dead when the knife blade broke in her arm. She stumbled out of the house as he went to the kitchen to get another knife. She was found passed out on the street with the baby in her arms by a neighbour who called an an ambulance and the police. He was arrested and charged. She is disfigured and has t live with her scars and in hiding for the rest of her life. She got daily calls from his family and relatives saying that that she "locked up their son", that was bringing "shame" to the family and that she should stop causing problems. The family stood up in court and said that she is a liar, that she did this to herself etc.

I could go on. It makes you wonder. Its as if people forget that dembigu kama hadhayo, wixii ay geysadaan kama maydhmayaan, su'aalo adag aa aakhiro la is weydiinayaa!

Somalida are also entrepreneurial, and very resilient people. a mere 2 decades ago, Somalia was a super power in africa under siade barr (aun). i think the future is positive as well. look at upcoming elections, despite all the issues, Somalia is slowly moving away from clan politics to alliances among different groups.

With respect to your description of Somali problems, you're on-point except one: Scapegoating Arab Muslims. There is no Arab culture that invaded us; we're Muslims and they're overwhelmingly fellow Muslims. Therefore, when it comes to Sunni Islam, we follow the same faith. On this point, I would say let us not project our failures on others.
No words necessary. Only the truth can save Somalis now.

The picture that you cited was taken during the Islamic Courts Union in Mogadishu in 2006. At that time, there was an uprising against warlords and there was a huge urge for both men and women to contribute to the effort of defeating the warlords.

Now, since in other countries women serve their armies, what stops Somali Muslim women from helping in the defense of their country while they observe modesty and wear hijab and niqaab? You need to stop coming from gaalo perspective and try to see things through Muslim lenses. That should help you to understand the context that those Somali women are coming from!

DISCLAIMER: I in now way support any form of extremism. I have to put that out since the agents of kuwii saddexda xaraf are lurking here.

I do not agree . The cadaan peace loving people you so love { I do too} didn't just wake up one day and establish the "idyllic " state we think we live in compared to our home country . It took THOUSANDS of years to perfect it and it is STILL being impoved upon . If we put our minds together I think we can not only create the country Kwame N'krumah told would have the best chances to succeed in 1960 , but will be used as the blueprint for many other parts of the world .
I think we're pretty fortunate actually .
