And...? Somalis and africans have used it too as did we use henna. The west learnt from the arabs and now we attribute these to them alone. There's really no proof to say somalis borrowed it from arabs.theologain wrote: Wed Nov 01, 2017 1:36 am 1. Ancient Egyptians never had our land

Somalia usually is not desert, the Arabians used it for daily use. The word Alcohol came from the word Kuxul in Arabic.

And this just a byproduct of trade only used in the Muslim world. This product originated in Arabia.thelionwithfire wrote: Thu Nov 02, 2017 3:25 amAnd...? The henna plant is endemic to the upper half of africa. Maybe the style it's worn today, the geometric look and such, is arab but the plant and wearing it on fingers, thumbs, and nails has always been part of our culture.theologain wrote: Thu Nov 02, 2017 2:57 pmAnd this just a byproduct of trade only used in the Muslim world. Henna came from the sub-Indian continent not Arabs.
The tree grows in Somaliland as far as I know not sure about Somalia.

The plant is endemic, as in native, to upper africa as well as lower india making it a natural occurrence.AwRastaale wrote: Sat Nov 04, 2017 4:05 pm Henna came from the sub-Indian continent not Arabs.

Believing it was introduced supported by our own eurasia first bias- the belief everything was first formed in eurasia before spreading-and thus a grotesque acknowledgement to the proofs found.
One being the oldest form of henna is found on skeletons within africa worn in the same style traditionally worn by afrian woman today.
Our belief of it being indian is solely on the europeans timeline of events. Not the globes.
On finger pads

Even african men dyed their hair with henna. Is this through interactions and mingling? maybe, but until there's proof its safe to say is a shared tradition.

We had punt, or buun/boon and from their kuul was sent to egypt. A point supporting the arab introduction of kuul to africa is null.theologain wrote: Wed Nov 01, 2017 1:36 am

The word kuxul can be arabic but it's an odd coincidence somalis have a necklace named kuul where kuul was packed in calling the eyeliner indha kuul. Ones a the name for the substance the other a necklace and substance. It shows a high likelihood of the practice being introduced rather than native to the middle east.
Somalis today are very different to the ones of the past. Many changes were made, naturally ofcourse, whereas others to abandon what was seen as pagan. Even india is said to have introduced a form of kung fu to china however it's practice is nearly extinct in modern india. Lack of evidence doesn't dictate a lack of existence. The fact the horn had been trading kuul 1000s of years in the past shows some nativity in it's practice.
