Yup you got it, the traditional head changed from one group to a cousin group, the title makes no difference, they just happened to have a tradition of using the term Ugaas as leader already.

So your telling me the title Garaad died once the change happened. I am assuming the Ugaas is only for Marehan and not other sub clans within the family tree above Marehan which am not sure what you are after Darood. The same way the Imaam title is officially Imaam of Hiraab but since HG now have their own Ugaas and stuff have no loyalty to him while each Sub clan have Ugaas. Rer Ugaas Sharmaake exiting politics and freeing up federal representative seats will enhance the role of Ugaas and unify dhaqanka Beesha Sade as there is no conflict of interest, it will also create room for more equitable sharing among Farah Ugaas and MX, I cannot stress how important such a move is for MX.
