I thought we (Daroods) were a bunch of African escapees (who landed in Somalia, after the Zanzibar sultans abducted them from Mozambique), and not the descendants of Arabs or the prominent Babylon ppl. Why did u change ur standpoint? WasnÂ’t that ur previous stance about us?

Seriously, we are Africans and not Arabs. The only 2 things we share with Arabs are the religion and the significant amount of Arabic vocabulary we borrowed from the Arabic script. "Nothing more, Nothing less"....

I hate when people say are SOMALIS Arab or African because;

1. Dir [including Isaaq], Hawiye are indegenious Cushites and have no place in the Darod descents. The reason the Arab connection is so strong and repeated ever so often in Somali history is cuz of Darod's representation of the Somali race and political-social life and the fact that Darod (Abdirahman Ismacil Jaberti) was of Arab descent leads people to assume all Somalis are of Arab descent. The indegenious Cushites should keep their mouths shut since we already know what they are. This kind of discussion should only be allowed to those who actually have place in the "known" geneology.

2. You cannot be either Arab or African since Arab is a race and African is and/or relating to the African continent. You can be an Arab African if you are an Arab born in Africa, so it's stupid for children without identity confusing things because they are frusterated about the lack of knowledge about their own geneology.

3. I am not Arab. I can say I share great deal of commonalities with the Arabs and that my ancestor Ahmed Abdirahman Ismacil Jaberti was of Arab descent but today I, his fortieth and some descendent, cannot call myself Arab because of the amount of Cushitic blood I had taken in. I trace my geneology paternally as is the case in the middle east and it is why ultimately I will trace descent to the Hashimite House but I am not today any more Arab then a fellow Hawiye or Dir [including Isaaq] whose Cushitic blood I have been taking in since my great-matriach Doonbira became the significant other of his greatness Abdirahman Ismacil Jaberti whose descendents have led Somalia ever since he landed on the Somali coast.

Lets cut the long story short, we are Cushitic ppl (Samaal and Saab) and not Arabs. Well, couple of Arab traders settled in Somalia, 4 the business purposes and established close relationships with them, 4 the reason that Somalia was an important center of early trade. But insignificant number of Arabs canÂ’t modify Somalis original root and bloodline.....

BTW, Nacnacda Badan Iyo Saqajaanimada Ha Ila So Aadin, Caanooleega Aad Tahay Cune....

I hate it when confused little girls because of insecurity run to google and pick worthless side-notes of no substance and meaning.

1. No one knows if you really are Majeerteen and through that Darod. And even if you were Majeerteen we would have to dissect your geneology and analyze whether you are one of the known ones mixed with Zanzabari concubines that wacked the genotype and make them ashamed of claiming Arab descent because of current genotype and phenotype make-up..

2. Cushitic is a linguistic designation and not a race, and infact linguists are going to be destroying the "Cushitic" subfamily of Afro-Asiatic because they are saying the languages in there are "sprachbund" or languages that became to similar to each other because of geographical proximity and not of one origins. There is no "Cushitic" race.

3. Sab and Samaal are not geneological groupings but groupings by CULTURE. The Italians furthered the idea of Sab and Samaal to distinguish the Pastorialists (Samaal-Dir, Darod, ISaak, and Hawiye) from the agroculturals (Sab-Rahanweyn [Digle-Mirifle]). Sab and Samaal are NOT classifications by origins but cultural habitations. Ever heard the term "Northern Samaal" and "southern Sab" anyone??

4. No one said present-day Darods are Arabs. Darod aka Abdirahman Ismacil Jaberti himself was Arab yes but he married a dir woman and there offspring married more into the peoples of the Somali peninsula. He was Arab but obviously not us and some inter-marriage long ago would not be so big and talked about right now if we were NOT a patrilineal society where descent is counted by your father's side which obviously would enter Arab realms later. In that respect I AM of Arab descent.

5. No one is going to ME that my explicit geneology of over forty names and this clear historical record of my and my ancestors is false. No one is going to tell what they bring from their heads is right because of whatever present feeligns they have and the living record of my family and I is wrong. Aint nobody gonna tell me shawty, no body.

Nagin it seems you hav fallen for the arab falacy that there are strong in deen...I bet muslims in improvish africa are most religious than arabs you wish to aquinte with. ironically Most arabs consider us Arabs .
there is two sect of Arabs
1.El3arab el3ariba /the original arabs (the orgin of Arab people is Southren Saudi Aribia and Yemen

2.El3arab el musta3riba /who become Arabnized ,like the Barbars in north africa ,the Egyptians ,northern sudanese ,some of the Syrian/lebnones "and they believe that somalis are part of this sect like Mauritanie

Hate them or Love them at the end even if we not arabs they are and will be the closest people and race to Somalis of all world people and races

for all you qoxotis thank the arabs for accepting you like no others.

In Saddams Iraq up unitl the end, somali passport which is really a useless pieve of paper was accepted and you could travel and stay visa free in Iraq, get medical tratement and send your kids to school for free.

Same thing in syria now.
I know of at least 7 families who stay in Damascus
and any faarax could step on a plane, and land in Damascus visa free with the somali passport.
