"The Somali are generally tall and well made, with a very dark
smooth skin"
Dawlo i think u are wrong to say the English man did not see hawiye. I think he was describing precisely hawiye. The "tall" description is a given, all somalis are tall. However the 'very dark' is a cliches, the 'well made' indicates a propwess of body! Now i dont want to run accounting hawiye with body prowess or run to conclusion right away. I have to build my case.

The 'smooth skin' is a big tell tell, hawiye generally tend to be more naturally 'smooth' than darood or isaaq.I have observed that with many hawiye. I am talking about pure madoow siinji hawiyes not half casts with daroods or isaaqs.Where mythology insists daroods are descendants of arabs, one should not be hasty to dismiss this myth. Arabs tend to be hairy.Hawiye mimic the pure african adoons who are usually extremely smooth and have a natural body prowess.
'with thin lips and aquiline noses '
I looked up the word aquiline-- stands for beak like shape. Like the beak of an eagle.Clearly this white man saw a more distinguished refined sub clan of hawiye-- one will assume Hawadley. The emphasis on white teeth is general to all somalis except of course nothern parts where the golden teeth is a part of a misguided beauty. But strangely and particularly--likely this English man was impressed by the white teeth eminating from an extremely madoow person. Madoow skin usually enhances an illusion of a super white teeth!
'the dress of the Somali
females usually consisted of goat skins tied over the left shoulder
and hanging loosely in front '
This sentence hints a little bit of an abgaal possibility.
