Murax..

Egyptians have thier good qualities and bad qualities.
they are friendly, too friendly to the point of annoyance, down to earth, but they are also racist.
The khaleejis also have thier good side and bad too, i believe they are less race concious than others due to heavy intermixing with thier slaves.
All the bad qualities you mentioned i agree with you, but they also have hospitality, and sharaf they had in the past.

about the image of Somalis, sadly the war brought forth a tide of people traumatised by the war and of a different class, its not a qabiil thing or a woqooyi Kunfor thing but 90% of the Somali population in the gulf was from woqoyi.

This somali population had allot of trained professionals who spoke arabic,
and were accepted as arabs. Somalis had a reputation for bieng agressive but generally peacefull,
for bieng practically crime free, and having dignity and pride..

After 91 there was a flood of somalis from the South, and at the same time a flood of reer woqooyi out of the khaleej towards europe and North america due to nationalization of the jobs.
(Somalis did most of the clerical jobs in government departments and the millitary and police forces, these jobs were easily replacable by local citizens, so mass firings led to the movement to Europe).

By the late 90's the arabs were shocked by the change in Somalis,
they were shocked that hardly anyone spoke arabic, they were shocked with the spike in crime
(you wouldnt believe how many dead bodies turning up in the creek are due to inter somali disputes, and sadly they are shocked as everyone else is to discover drugs and prostitution as well).

You can see why there is an attitude change..

they only hire westerners for financial, medical and engineering jobs

Gurey,

You hit the nail on the head an I couldn't have said it better. Arabs had a certian image of Somalis before the civil war as they had a very dignifed reputation. This is why they got so shocked when they saw Somalis do a 180 turn. Sadly this had changed the reputations of Somalis as educated, hard working, successful people into hungry ridden bandits which led to a lot of the disprespect and rightfully so. Unfortuantely things are the oppositte the way they used to be as when people see down to earth, respectable Somalis there they actually get suprised.

As far as Reer Woqooyi living in the Middle East, I don't think you were being qabiliste at all. Reer Woqooyi were known to travel abroad and while a lot of Issaq travelled to the Middle East plenty of Warsangeli, Majerten etc. travelled to the Middle East and abroad. I knew this Warsangeli girl who was in her 20s and her Grandfather migrated to New York in the '20s. Shocking, lool..

neocon_2007,

I'm just saying you will never make a killing in a place where everybody is investing. You don't buy low & sell high like that.

Try NYC back in the 70s when parking lots were selling for a little over 100k and buildings 200k-up those lots are being converted into hotels. Those buildings are worth 20-up mill. Dubai at this rate if demand exceeds development and being the port city for much of the mid-east, Asia and Africa you will definetly make a killing in a few years on small or large investments.

Quite Possible. You never know.

I'm just wary of places where the whole world is investing in.
