Hawalas have decent yearly returns, around 15% for investors. This is much better than the yearly treasury yield which was of 2007/2008 5.06%, barring inflation. This year it will be much lower. In essence Hawalas are ideal for those with excessive liquidity who would rather invest their money in hawalas for multi-purposes, be it avoid taxation, get small profit while at it etc. Individual depositors donot get any return on their investments in hawalas as they are able to access to their money within a day or two.
