I actually enjoyed the documentary and found it to be very educational. Many of you have uttered "I don't care about madow people" well to be quite honest you are madow and the Somali diaspora in this country and in the west face the same problems but just with slight differences. Many of the Somali kids grow up in household whereby they are raised by single mother essentially, even thou the father could be present he is still not involved in the lives of the kids. I've noticed that a lot of Somali women are focused on gaining a dollar that their kids are uncounted for, thus is why they end up on the streets and we see many youths joining gangs, dropping out school, and the getting killed.Yes there are Somalis who are successful and this is more noticeable then in the african-american community (to us at least) because the Somali population here is so small compared to the african-americans but if you look the income of just oprah winfery is much more then all the Somali population in America.
Re: MUST WATCH: BLACK IN AMERICA ToNITE on CNN
Good point. I also want to point out that here in America Race is not broken down by ethnicity. Polish, Irish, English, French all equal white and Somali, Nigerian, Ugandan, all equal black. More than likely the stats used in the report included somalis.sadeboi wrote:I actually enjoyed the documentary and found it to be very educational. I very much doubt that razzberry. There are at most 200,000 Somalis in America. There are 40 million African Americans. The stats on Somalis would make no difference to the results in this show. This show dealt with Black American issues and problems that have been prevalent for decades before Somalis even came to the US.razzberry wrote:Good point. Snowflakes, that is true however read sadeboi's post, he hit it on the money.
Re: MUST WATCH: BLACK IN AMERICA ToNITE on CNN
GREAT point, sade, cuz i've noticed the same thing, with the prime difference being the fact that Somali's rarely, if ever, have their kids out of wedlock.sadeboi wrote:I actually enjoyed the documentary and found it to be very educational. Re: MUST WATCH: BLACK IN AMERICA ToNITE on CNN
Why are we discussing a Black issue in a somali forum. For those who believe just because you live in a certain neigbourhood your gonna turn out bad i think are hallucinating, It all depends on how your parents raise you. I was born and raised in the west and so was FAH and we seem to have turned alright i would say. It all depends on how the parents raise their children and what choices they make.

Umm.... maybe you just never made the effort to notice my posting history but I am the least afro centric and least pan nergo black person you will ever come across.Lexmark wrote:and to razzberry, that show was only referring to African americans...so take your pan negro attitude to blackchat or nubian queen
Re: MUST WATCH: BLACK IN AMERICA ToNITE on CNN
For you Somalis that believe that the success of the Somali families and populace is at such a grand level then by all means believe that. Nonetheless, even if you don't identify with being black or care for the issue at hand, you should still see this as something educational in the sense you get a better understand of what it is to be "black in america" and the social-political challenges that faces the black populace and how these challenges came about. Why is that you must approach this topic in such derogatory way? Which to me is a sort of 'blockade' of your own insecurities.

Re: MUST WATCH: BLACK IN AMERICA ToNITE on CNN
Lexmark, get real. I don't know what you mean by the majority of Somalis have two parents because where I grew up, those of us who did were few. There are so many Somali single mothers who have to raise 8 kids on their own because their husband is absent for whatever reason. He's either working ungodly hours, at the coffee shop acting like some political pundit or he's not in the country at all. Try raising kids yourself, I bet you can't even babysit more than one child for a few hours straight let alone raise a bunch of kids all by yourself. Stop passing judgment on others. You sound like someone who grew up with both of his parents and so did I, but walaahi I know so many people who were raised by single mothers and it ain't no joke. Raising children is no joke.Lexmark wrote:you people are too emotional
majority of somalis have two parents, just because you live in some government housing surrounded by madows, does not mean every somali does
and a lot of the missing fathers is due to the mother, she claims to be single, widowed, or divorced in oder to collect welfare
these women need to let these men work instead of collect benefits
and about the kids
a hoe is gonna be a hoe regardless if she lives with a single mother or both parents
xalimos need to be given estrogen shots, cuz they have way to much testosterone in their bodies
and about farahs, same shit...they'll become losers regardless
and for the record
if a mom is collecting welfare, the least she can do is look after her kids, no excuse
shes not working 2, 3 jobs to support her family, shes sitting on her ass 24/7 waiting for that government cheque
