I don't think I will, if I found a good muslim girl, who is educated, and a great personality, and is Marexaan!!! So, I blessed! lol. To me, wanting a Marexaan and wanting a Somali is the same, its still the notion of division within Islam, just because ones preference stops at their ethnicity [Somali] and one goes further into clan [Somali>>>Marexaan] does not mean that the first one is more just its the same, because if you wish to go by religion then you shouldn't choice based on any race, ethnic, or clan division. Thou, marriage is based on three things: religion, wealth, and kinship!

I disagree, I would marry anyone regardless of their tribe however, in saying that I won't lie and tell you I don't have a racial preference as I don't picture myself with anyone other than a Somali but Allah calem. The only reason I'm not interested in inter-racial marriage is because of the discrepancy in culture, tradition, customs and to some extent even values. I'm not saying me personally, wouldn't be able to communicate and understand a non-Somali but what is taboo for Somali's might not be entirely taboo for a Pakistani for example.

I would also want my future husband to be able to understand my extended family some of which aren't fluent in English or which language the child should speak. Even minor things such as traditional cooking would even be a barrier (I'm not saying you can't overcome them) but I'm not just a Somali at flesh, I'm Somali at heart. I think only a Somali would understand me due to the similar upbringing we've had. But Allahu calem, I may be smitten by revert in shinning armour who will sweep me off my feet. Who am I to deny a brother who understands and implements the deen and a gorgeous smile with a cute blond beard?

As for having a preference for qabiil I think that indeed is discrimination, some might argue only clan X will understand me, so not true! We basically speak the same language (give or take a few words/accents), belief, customs etc. My preference for Somali's are a result of my logical reasoning on the matter they may not be entirely correct. On the other hand, having a preference for clan is quite the contrary, it is one that is tainted with arrogance and ignorance.

The funny thing is, it is the 21st century and this question of inter-clan marriage is being posed, my parents are not of the same clan, and neither were my mother's parents,.. that was 2 generations ago. Whilst on the subject I have many cousins of varying clans and I love them all. In my experience we're not the only diverse family too. I think even if we stretch many generations ago there were inter-clan marriage as you will find an overlap of sub-clan names in different clans such as the sub-clan X* as sect of clan Y* (although this may doubt the credibility of my sources i will be fair and state my knowledge of clans is limited though, this is something i have been told). The internet has been invented, we've seen two world wars and dear God this tribe thing is still a national affiliation.

In a nutshell, there is no prejudice in a preference of ethnicity I daresay I deem it rather pragmatic even, but having a preference of clan that is your preference of being prejudice and I respect that nonetheless :P

*clan names have been substituted accordingly (I don't want to offend anyone in any way)
I realized this is longer than intended so Salaams! :P
