People arguing in favour of the niqab usually cite this ayah:
“And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts)
and not to show off their adornment except only that which is apparent (like both eyes for necessity to see the way, or outer palms of hands or one eye or dress like veil, gloves, headcover, apron), and to draw their veils all over Juyoobihinna (i.e. their bodies, faces, necks and bosoms) and not to reveal their adornment except to their husbands, or their fathers, or their husband’s fathers, or their sons, or their husband’s sons, or their brothers or their brother’s sons, or their sister’s sons, or their (Muslim) women (i.e. their sisters in Islam), or the (female) slaves whom their right hands possess, or old male servants who lack vigour, or small children who have no sense of feminine sex. And let them not stamp their feet so as to reveal what they hide of their adornment. And all of you beg Allaah to forgive you all, O believers, that you may be successful”
[al-Noor 24:31]
Adornment being the key word, some regard the face as adornment, others dont. But you cant really argue it is bidah.

You claim that the Niqab is a "preIslamic tradition".. please find evidence. Another thing which you may need to consider is, did Islam come to relieve such a tradition or did it embrace it?

surrender wrote:you cannot make haraam what has alah made halaah and you cannot make halaal what allah has made haraam so the westernised people who try so hard to fit their religion and life style with this moder world, go else where(like this article for example) afterall you only fooling yourselves no one else. at the end of the day the niqaab is there for you cover yourselves from men, (It is well-known that the wives of the Prophet covered their faces any time non-mahram men were near. A woman named Asma, who was not a wife of the Prophet, it was also recorded as covering her face. Easily, one can conclude that wearing veil is halal (permissible)) even though in this society the veil draws too much attention, causing men (and women) to look upon her more than normal. but you have to realise that when men 'look', they have nothing of her to see!! the whole point of the veil. so take your excuses else where because the veil is what allah has ordered and no newspaper/website/kuffar reporter is going to take that away.
You hit the nail on the head

Whatever happen to lowering your gaze? Is it the unveiled women's fault that you are staring at her? Why must she be the one to blame for your lack of control??

I see the niqab as backward and a complete resignation from the fashion industry.
It's actually here the Ummah should put on a great struggle, we should make a unique paralelle fashion world
away from the nudity and faggot rule.
our girls are slaves of these fag lords , DG , Dior , Versace you name it.
they should start encouraging eachother to design more suitable Islamic clothes
fukin western gaylord fashion industry
by the way the niqaab is completely incompatible with a general lifestyle for a humanbeing.
It's a bidah and not well thought of, its basically a overkill of modesty .

This is a great news. The Niqab is an Arab tradition and its got nothing to do with Islam. Niqab isn't even mentioned in the quran as a woman dress code. Too bad it took that long for this fatwa to come out but alhamduillah its better late then never. Having said that I also believe in freedom of choice, so if a woman still want to wear it its her choice but its got no religious binding in Islam. Now we need courageous ulma and sheik to speak and issue fatwa's against beating woman, singing is forbidden, and woman and men can't shake hands and all those arab traditions that are label as Islam.

Sisters! Brothers! SubhanaAllah study your deen. Don't mock and talk without knowledge. Read the Qur'an along with Tafseers and ofcourse Hadiths which are sahih, and as these can be tricky, you will need the explanation of them from our noble Shayooks. Then you will come to understand the position of the Niqab in Islam. InshaAllah. And that applies to any Fatwa, any Fiqh question. You need to know, this is your deen, your aqeedah.
Look at hadiths there are many suggesting that it is a part of Islam and that women during the time of the Prophet Muhammad sallahu waaliyhim wassallam used to wear it. The wives of the Prophet also used to wear it. And these are the mothers of the believers!
Remember also that somethings are not simply 'halal' / 'haram' or 'wajib' theres also 'fard'
Shaykh Al Albani (ra) a scholar of Hadith may Allah bless him regards as the Niqab as better and sisters should wear it but it is not compulsory. Also those living in non muslim lands as it being better to not. The Shaykhs daughters and wife however wear it. MashaAllah.
I could give you many articles in support of the Niqab and many articles on the middle ground.
