The only difference is Siad Barre believed he could civilize the barbarians but civilizing them proved futile.

Have you ever questioned why the opposition groups were not based on advanced political positions but tribalism? SSDF (Majeerteen), SNM (Isaaq), USC (Hawiye), etc. <---That mentality of dividing themselves up like that tells you a great deal the ailments that has a grip on the Somali people.
this guy make me laugh
kulahaa siyaad barre tried to civilised the barbarians. first of all wasn't siyaad barre somali himself and therefore a barbarian himself by your reasoning. i dont know how you could defend such man. the man was responsible for the murder of thousands of his OWN civilians. he bombed his own cities, he Fermented tribal tensions. he was the head of one of most corrupt regimes known to man. his cronies robbed and stripped what very little wealth somalis had.
if you call that civilised then there is something morally wrong with with you

Ironically enough the man who swindled the most from the Somali people is your adeer and a man you have defended here many times. Why Cali Khaliif Galayr hightail out of the country in the early 80's if he hadn't stolen a chunk of Somalia's wealth when he ran with everything Warshada mareerey had?

When Siad Barre died, he died penniless. He had no land to his name and no account to his name save the state house of Villa Somalia.

It is people like your uncle Galayr who took advantage of the Father of Modern Somalia and left him with a wrong legacy.

when have you ever seen defend 'my' uncle ina galayr, in fact when have you ever seen me defend any somali leader.
sxb as far im concerned siyaad barre's regime a was a criminal regime, full of bandits, thief and killers and they were all the blooyd same. the only difference was the bug stopped at siyaad's office. im not an apoligist for anybody. i call a spade a spade
now many people in here condemn siyaad barre purely for tribal reasons, im not one of them, and i personally feel that he was a patriotic man who loved his country. however, the reality is he ended up destroying what he loved either through negligence, recklessness or through pure ignorance
