Kambuli,

Salaam abaayo,

Is 'Baaquli?' not a bowl then? Or is that not how you spell it?

Weel can be used as a general term for all Utensils/weelal
Baaquli is a specific type of vessel/weel/utensil

Based on my understanding. If someone tells you to hand them a weel, it can be any utensil they are interested. If they specify, you give them what they specifically asked for.

Somali plurals are absolutely illogical!

bas -basas
sanduuq - sanaadiiq
koob - kobab
taraq - taraqyo
wiil - wiilal
magaalo - magaaloyin
aabe - aabeyaal
cadow - cadowya
cagta - cagaha
ilig - ilko

etc etc

All this for the English -S and -ES :?:

Dawwa,

Its pointless to look for logic in Somali, Period. Its just a Oral language, oo qasab qoraal loogu sameeye. The most important part of the language in my opinion is getting the feminine and masculine, and the time tense's (past, present, and future) right. Everything else is up for grabs. As for Singular: just the word. Plural: ue pick of: -o, -yaal, -ini, -al etc.

For those of you don't understand, Somali is a tonal language like Chinese

Inan is for both boy and girl depending on how you pronounce it.

I-nan = boy (masculine--you boy)
In-an = girl (feminine--you girl)

Just like

Na-cas = stupid (masculine--stupid boy/man)
Nac-as = stupid (feminine--stupid girl/woman)

Do-qon = dumb (masculine--dumb boy/man)
Doq-on = dumb (feminine--dumb girl/woman)

Also Dawaa, it is Inanka not Inanki..

Inanka = the boy/girl (present)
Inanki = the boy/girl (past tense).

The plural of Saxan is saxuun and maacuun.

You know what else? Complete Sentences. You could be reading an entire news article and not see a single stop for 3 paragraphs...

Somali must be grammatically harder than English or most European languages. Never knew that.

What does that have to do with linguistic evolution? Nothing. Whether written or not, these languages evolved long time ago and most older languages (like Somali) happen to be more complex then newer languages.

It's complex, yes, and very old. But its the writing portion we're talking about here not the language itself. As you prolly already know, that is relatively young. 40 some odd years tops. As much as it was enforced and standardized, the majority of older folks still remain illiterate and to add to confusion different regions speak different dialects, which is why u keep seeing this yaal vs. -ooyin for example. :|
