gem, it means they're culturally muslims. secular/modern muslims don't have the time to take 5 mins out of their day to face the east to pray. they celebrate eid but don't fast during ramadan. they think the hadiths/sunnah are unnecessary and women and men should dress how they wish. to them homosexuality is okay and drinking alcohol is fine as long as you don't get wasted. but NEVER, EVER, have the evil bacon..that's just disgusting. :?

gemini07 wrote:I would love to know what people mean by I'm a "secular" muslim. Do these people pray only twice a day and celebrate Christmas/hanukkah/Kwanzaa/Diwali as well as Eid. Break their fast by gargling wine , wear a Hijab with a mini- skirt .. WTF :?

Reminds me of that "Syed" character on Eastenders.
We can all philosophize and have endless discussions about that. But it comes down to one thing and that's that they dont agree (parts of) the Shari'a.

I DON'T OPPOSE IT. IT SHOULD BE A WOMAN'S CHOICE TO WHETHER OR NOT TO WEAR THE VEIL. HIJAB
LET'S BE REAL. BEFORE THE WAR, SOMALI WOMEN USE TO DRESS MODERNLY EAST AFRICAN STYLE.

Somalia is a Muslim country were women should dress modestly and abide by the sharia law, yes women before the war dressed more western but that isn't something to brag and be happy about
PS You didn't answer my question what parts of Islam don't you agree with :?:

Modernly = Half naked right ? The only place a Somali women should wear a Guntiino, sadex qeeyd , Dirac is inside her house .

"And say to the faithful women to lower their gazes, and to guard their private parts, and not to display their beauty except what is apparent of it, and to extend their headcoverings (khimars) to cover their bosoms (jaybs), and not to display their beauty except to their husbands, or their fathers, or their husband's fathers, or their sons, or their husband's sons, or their brothers, or their brothers' sons, or their sisters' sons, or their womenfolk, or what their right hands rule (slaves), or the followers from the men who do not feel sexual desire, or the small children to whom the nakedness of women is not apparent, and not to strike their feet (on the ground) so as to make known what they hide of their adornments. And turn in repentance to Allah together, O you the faithful, in order that you are successful"

The Hijab should have certain conditions through which a believing women can be recognised from among others. The best form for the veil is the garment which should cover the whole body . The garment should also be thick and opague so that it doesn't reveal what is underneath..

Allah addressed the BELIEVING women by his saying "and say to the believing women" and "And the believing women" . .

"O Prophet! Say to your wives and your daughters and the women of the faithful to draw their outergarments (jilbabs) close around themselves; that is better that they will be recognized and not annoyed. And God is ever Forgiving, Gentle." - (Al Ahzab )

The Hijab is a garment of chastity which serves to preserve the honour and the purity of the believing women.Being half naked - wearing "modern" attire makes you nothing more than a mere commodity of shaydaan.

THE ONLY HARD THING I'VE NEVER UNDERSTOOD IS WHY YOU CAN HIT YOUR WIFE(4:34). THAT'S PRETTY MUCH THE ONLY THING I DON'T AGREE WITH.
