In order to be pro-South Sudan, I've to have a family member or friend who works for a UN agency or Western NGO based in Sudan, South Sudan or Darfur. That family member or friend has to tow the storyline or position of the UN agency or Western NGO; which essentially is anti-Sudan, pro-South Sudan. Consequently, I've to tow the storyline or position of my family member or friend. But, I don't have either. So, that leaves me with the position of Hollywood stars and Western media, which essentially is anti-Sudan, pro-South Sudan. Unfortunately, I don't like George Clooney's acting, and find most of his movies subpar. I also don't trust Western media where it concerns Muslims.
Over the years, I've befriended many Sudanese people, and found them to be very generous, kind, respectful and good Muslims. The few South Sudanese I've come to know harbored ill feelings for Somalis. Several months ago, there was a report about South Sudan denying Somalis to do business there. There are other similar reports (I think one involved kidnapping Somalis).
I'm Muslim, so by default, I naturally support Muslims where it concerns Muslims vs non-Muslims. Bear in mind, this is a world where non-Muslims have the upper (particularly influencing the public opinion) hand against Muslims, at least for the time being.
I support Sudan.

Too bad the world isnt as binary as you are trying to make it look. If you care for Sudan or its Muslims why would you want it to go to war? Why would you support a guy who is running the country into the ground in the first place?Arabmann wrote:In order to be pro-South Sudan, I've to have a family member or friend who works for a UN agency or Western NGO based in Sudan, South Sudan or Darfur. Also what does Darfur have to do with South Sudan? You don't support the Muslims of Darfur?

Re: Sudan vs South Sudan; who you with? Who are you siding w
I couldn't care less about South Sudan or their plight tbh. The fact remains that Sudan's territorial claims in Ethiopia often led to an alignment with Somalia's foreign policy in regards to Ethiopia. Somalia has long been surrounded by hostile neighbors as a result of our irredentist claims, with both Ethiopia and Kenya strengthening ties and cooperating against the Somali threat. Losing South Sudan has meant the once friendly, fellow Muslim/"Arab" neighbor that also happened to have a territorial dispute with Ethiopia is now replaced with a hostile Christian Nilote/Bantu country that is aligned with Kenya and Ethiopia. Reports of Somalis being banned from S.Sudan does not bode well for future relations.

Yep the enemy of my enemy my friend. It's regrettable the way the S sudanese were treated but it's a price to pay if you wish to be free in a highly violent region.Based wrote:I couldn't care less about South Sudan or their plight tbh. I long read reports now about the very violent encounters between S. Sudanese and Somalis in the Kenyan refugee camps and even in as far as Greece. Whether it's hate or not - the two definitely dont seem to get along well.
