I consider dhahabshill too big to fail and these hackers are a treat to the Somali economic security.

Millions of people depend on remittances that go through dhahabshill
It seems people have identified the past few years that the Somali nation is sustained by remittances, that’s why you see some calling for tighter scrutiny into the Somali remittances sector

Are people saying al Qaeda likes dhahabshil and they use dhahabshil only, come one, majority of al Qaeda transactions go through Middle Eastern banks and western banks?

this is clearly political motivated, remember what is that give these hackers interest into somali wikileaks files, I don`t care for the wikileaks cabels from angola or Belarus, what was it that drew their attention in the first place if they were not already into the somali nations affairs

Funny how all these leaks are happening during a critical time just like the monitoring groups report
Dhaka, July 17 (bdnews24.com)—The US division of HSBC provided money and bank service to Bangladesh Islami Bank and Social Islami Bank, which a US Senate report identified as banks suspected to have involvement in raising fund for terrorist organisations.

The report published on Monday is the result of an investigation on London-based HSBC Holdings PLC by the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.

This should make somali bussinesses more aware of their enemies and get ready to prevent future attacts. The giant dahabshiil and other xawaalas should join forces to tackle future common threats.

awahab, yes I have to do it for my own privacy and security :) My future relationship with any somali bank will be through proxies and assumed identities. Your idea of stacking cash somewhere in your home makes sense to me now  I don't fully trust somali hawalas and never used somali income tax return companies because technology is foreign to us.

Golis is cheap not because they wanted it that way. When Telcom/Olympic came to Puntland the two companies couldn't agree on how to milk the public in tandem so they started a price war - that's what drove Golis' prices to the ground. Real competition is good for the consumer

Why are you guys so callous? This is a somali corporation which employs thousands of Somalis around the world. It is our flagship company and you are all here dancing and wishing for their fall? subhanalah! We are nicknamed crabs (pull each other down) for a reason. Dahabshil sets standards for all somali banking and money transfer companies, a company I am very proud of.

Did they do something wrong in the past? care to share?
The only ones celebrating it are a couple of idiots and GK
What do all those celebrating have in common? :| Crabs in a bucket indeed. Dahabshiil is the closest thing somalis have to an international conglomerate, if it falls it's gonna cause an earthquake.

I haven't heard anything from anyone so far, so I'm gonna take this news with a grain of salt.

smh Dahabshiil is one of the world's largest money transfer companies. Somalis should be proud and not wish for their downfall; Dahabshiil is Somali and Somali is Dahabshiil. Stop hating
Dahabshiil has a 40-year history of supporting Somali-speaking communities around the world and invests $1 million every year in community regeneration projects and charitable efforts across the 144 countries in which it operates.

In East and Central Africa, Dahabshiil is one of the top private investors in hospitals and health centres – helping to develop infrastructure and provide financial support, equipment and medicines

In the Horn of Africa, Dahabshiil has made an important contribution to ongoing relief work, making donations and assisting the management and distribution of funds for humanitarian and development organisations that work with communities affected by conflict, drought and famine. Some 95% of international organisations operating in the region, including the UN, World Health Organisation, World Bank, Oxfam, Save the Children and Care International rely on Dahabshiil to transfer funds.

DAHABSHIIL STATEMENT

“We wholeheartedly condemn the illegal actions of the activist group, Anonymous, and its claims of breaching the privacy of hardworking, responsible individuals.

“The claims from Anonymous that connections exist between our business and known terrorist organisations are quite simply wrong. Dahabshiil categorically denies these suggestions. We have never been the subject of any investigation in relation to alleged terrorist funding and we have no involvement whatsoever with money laundering or the funding of terrorist organisations.

“Consequently, we call on Anonymous to withdraw its untrue allegations immediately.

“Dahabshiil places the highest importance on its compliance procedures and has extensive anti-money laundering and anti-terrorist financing policies in place which are approved by the relevant regulators, including the FSA in the UK. All staff receive extensive and continuous training in this regard.

“We have started a thorough investigation of Anonymous’ attack and will keep all customers fully updated. Safeguarding our customers’ funds is of paramount importance to Dahabshiil. We will continue to work closely with the relevant authorities as we proceed.”

They need to hire a PR company and in the future let all press releases and official statements be dealt through them

Waryaa,

Again, these guys like most Somali companies lack sophistication. PR just like IT security is not paramount.

Btw, I pitched an idea to help diffuse incidents like the Bryden report to a close confidant of Sharif Ahmed. I told them that PR was critical and so was lobbying. They didn't see the importance until the Bryden report.

Oh well, so do you think that Dahabshiil can fix their systems ? Or is it a lost case ?
