Somalis are the best of ppl to know when you're in an ocean of foreigners. We hustle and swindle like no other. For years i skived off free in my lunch breaks at school because the security was Somali, i had free transport whenever our Somali neighbour was driving the bus, i had crazy discounts when Farxiyo was working at Burtons etc.

Proud to be an ethical and moral human being, not somali nor muslim. Been born of certain ethnic group shouldn't be a cause of arrogance. The Europeans and in particular the British once ruled the world and today they are humble, if these guys can get rid of the pride disease so can the poor history less zero accomplishing somalis.

I looked and asked my self if I was not an ethnic Somali, is there any other ethnic Group I wana be and I couldn't find one, in terms of which places to live there are many good places in this World, the Somali inhabited region of HoA is not them but again it is still ours.

as for the topic, I get what BV and others are trying to say. I can be both I find, be extremely prideful yet very humble when I need to be. When I'm sitting down across an executive there is this innate feeling of confidence that I have and self worth and a believe that, only Allah swt is above you and no other.. is that because of Somalinimo, I don't know.

I can also easily turn that off when I'm in the company of people who I feel are less fortunate than I'm..

Mate I don't need a video to see the sad reality of our people. I've seen it first hand. I would rather you post about what your doing to help and how you think we can help.

lol LamaG I think you tie pride with material possessions. You can't buy it. A person may want to take that ceer or make use of those opportunities, the question is do they think Scandinavian culture is better than their own?



When you're hanging out with people who do not know you, you could get away with saying you are of a lot of different ethnicities, Dominican, Ethiopian, Eritrean, heck even Brazilian, Arab. Do you/would you do it?

It is not a question of culture; that is a different thing. I hang out with non-somalis and I have never had a problem. I do also hang out with somalis (a selective few) and I have no problem. I refer you to my earlier reply ( the illustrative case of the lady); there is something special about belonging to a particular group; you share commonalities, institutions and much more; it is easier to interact with them; but, that does not mean that being a somali is better than being others. The core of this thread was " pride" and I blv that pride hurts. Somalis have been described as proud people; that is true but look at our situation?

The problem with pride is that it mutates just like Cancer; It starts with being proud of being a somali, then being proud of a certain tribe, then a certain clan, a certain sub-clan etc ; and before you know it, pride becomes hate

Lamagodle, let me put it this way; if I had the choice between living comfortably in Hargeisa or living comfortably in any Nordic capital, I would be chilling in Badda-cas right now.

Liquid, That is also true for me; I would love to chill in Hargeisa. What is better than chilling with people you share culture, language, religion etc with? But that is just a dream saaxib. It is about choice saaxib; as long as there is poverty, weak institutions, weak rules of law, economic disparities, human right problems and much more in our homeland, we are inclined to stay in other countries; from my perspective, that country of choice is located in Scandnavia.

Let us differentiate between dreams and reality. Let us also not be tempted by pride induced discourse of somalis; the dib baa loo noqonayaa syndrome nor the cheap nacnac that our people say " waxaan nacay wadankaan" while not leaving.

There is nothing called free lunch ! It comes with price; you are expected to return the favour; a prelude to corruption. Therein lies the problem. Favourism leads to corruption. Favourism is at the root of tribalism which is killing our society.

Why stop at somali when you can go down to your sub sub sub sub and so on qabil? Aren't we all prideful of things we did not achieve? Now if we were a nation of people that achieved something than we could have something to be proud of.
