LiquidHYDROGEN wrote:Let's be honest, close to 90% of (stop using this word) are just semitic speaking cushites. Every eritrean and ethiopian I have met look like beja, oromo, sudanese, agew etc. very rarely do I see a semitic looking one.
The Somali people in general can't differentiate or distinguish who is who (I am talking about the men only) especially in the West. I'm not sure if they can tell in some ethnic or not.

The vast majority would usually ask 'Are you Somali' or mistaken you as a Somali as soon as they discover your background when they speak Somali then it becomes awkward, asked or when their friend tells them. This is from my experience in the last 15 years with them and in here, we're close. There was a time when I had a hard time when my friend greet his bud to me. He discovered a week later when I told him i'm Eritrean, he refused to believe me and asked silly questions to prove who I am, I couldn't answer so I had to tell my bud to tell him that I am not Somali and he was shocked after a heated questions.

I believe what made it difficult for them to identify is because their community is very tight. They remain in one or two area and stick together whereas Sudani, Eri and the Ethio generally have no problem being mixed so they can easily tell 'who is who' based on their experience overtime.

Also, another thing what makes it harder for gen x/today's Somalis to distinguish is nowadays that I've noticed they mostly speak English even to themselves (except their family) so they just pass by, make the infamous stares and assume you're Somali.

Hahaha revo,

I can understand that. A lot of Hornians look alike.

Personally people mistaken me for Habesha ppl.

It is very uncomfortable to explain myself always and say I'm Somali.

I have Tigraian friend from Adwa and he was like man you are too light for Somali. I had to explain like Habesha, Somalis have all sheds.

Fkin it's annoying to explain youself bcoz of ur looks. habesha always speak Amharic to me and it's helpful when it's girls. Some chicks are so hot but I have andwer back in English. I realized Ethiopians speak Amharic in every opportunity. I met a lot of them born here and their first words are always in Amharic.

Anyways they can't tell that I'm warya.

One time I was visiting relatives. We took a lift/elevator and two Somali ladies came in. They start speaking Somali and one said to other to press #X. I was close to the numbers so I hit the number. They were shocked: eedo ma Somali ba thy (dear are u a Somali).

When I replied yes. She was like...eedo deriska aan ku haystay lakin beryahan wa lesku eekaday. (I tho u were the neighbors, these days we all look alike).

Funny moment. Lucky they didn't say anything embarrassing :D

Normally Somalis, Afar and Oromo have similar looks.

Because people mistaken you for a Somali, I am guessing that you are a Bilen. I have lots of Bilen friends. In fact, my next door neighbor is Bilen. Great hospitable people.

No need our Adari to think negative and question his roots.

I have a question since you have lots of Eri friends; what Eritrean tribe looks the most to Somali in the eyes of you?

All my brothers and sisters all look like typical cushitic Highlanders but I ended up looking like a dirty Arab. When I went to the UAE a few years ago with my uncle when I was 18, Emiratis kept talking to me in Arabic and they were shocked when I told them I came from the horn.
I think Im adopted or there must have been a baby swap in the hospital where I was born
Im thinking of getting a DNA test.
If I find out I aint Cushitic but a dirty Arab, I think I might kill myself

I would say Bin Amer, Bilen and Saho friends look Somali the most. I have not personally met Afar Eris.

The problem with Bin Amer and Saho is there isn't a lot to conclude a proper opinion but the few that I know look Somali the most especially Saho.

Bilen is quiet a lot compared to the other two but some of them look Beja.

Kebessa, Tigre and Jeberti look Habesha the most.

I would guess that you are Bilen, Saho or Bin Amer. Most likely Bilen or Bin Amer because Saho are bit more reserved where as the other two very well blend in with Somali community.

Most Eris and Somalis are close here and even many own businesses together.

Somalinet is a funny place!

A harari whose language is semitic and looks like a half cast arab...looks for comfort from Somalis : because no one believes he is negro!
Unbelivable!
He asks for comfort from the very same Somalis who claim they r Arabs (despite being as black as the darkest of nights)
and no one believes they r arab!

Hararboy...u r the best troller i ever came accross!

An Oromo calling Somalis as black as the darkest of night   .. Walle waa yaab.

Adari " Harari " don't claim they are descendant of Aw Abadir. Omar Al Rida " nicknamed Aw Abadir" was the founder of Harar city, he came from Arabia around 612 A.D. Don't confuse him with Abadir Musse Warwajecli who count 12 - 13 names to Siad Barre clan.

P.S. There are plenty of tribes in Harar including yours.

I thought Persians were like Arabs. you learn a new thing everyday wlh

did these people control all of Somalis or did the just control Muqdisho and other port cities?

you are right that Arab influence strengthened Somali and created the Ajuuran empire.
