This is INAAYAH's contribution which she PMed me . I say well done!!! She is really talented.

by Inaayah

Dhaqan was 16 yrs old when she first visited Hargeisa. She traded her ankle length maxi skirts, cardigans and her hijaabs that she wore backwards for a dirac shiid and an oversized dalad. Cereal for laxoox, or indho badan as the locals would call it and what would have been potentially an entire summer of fun in London, for a 6 week vacation in Hargeisa where she felt like an alien amongst a swarm of people.

‘’Asalaamu alakum, walaal nus kilo sonkor ah maad iga iibini karta?’’ Dhaqan politely asked the shabby looking man behind the till.

‘’Naa maad iga iibini karta ha odhanin ee, waxaad tidhahda waxaa iga iibi’’ replied the man and then threw her change at her on the table.

Getting use to some of the Somaliland customs was somewhat of a challenge for Dhaqan, but she quickly got use to the swing of things and adjusted fairly well.

Dhaqan was often misunderstood. To most, she came across as contemptuous and was often told ‘’waad isla wayn tahay’’ but in actuality she was quite the opposite. A reserved young lady who didn’t really know how to best express herself. Someone who was at times uncertain of herself, who would hide behind her witty yet brash comments. This side of Dhaqan would most often come out when she was around the opposite gender.

‘’So, who’s this prince charming?’’ Dhaqan asked Dhaqane. This was out of character for Dhaqan, but Dhaqane’s devilish handsome good looks got the better of her.

‘’I’m not a prince, I’m a simpleton’’ replied Dhaqane in a German accent, adding ‘’but I want to know more about the qalanjo sitting in front of me’’

Dhaqan nervously let out a little chuckle and replied ‘’Qalanjo is the name for a female elephant, do I resemble an elephant to you?’’

Dhaqane laughed and right away knew she was going to be a handful.

‘’So what do you do Iyaah? Tell me more about yourself’’

Dhaqan responded with ‘’Ich heisse Inaayah’’ followed by a cheeky grin.

Dhaqane was impressed, he liked a girl with substance.

Dhaqan ordered her usual Vanilla Latte whilst Dhaqane ordered a freshly brewed coffee. He would have much rather preferred a Martini but wanted to make an impression on the fine dheeylo in front of him.

After an hr or so of talking, they both got up to leave. It was only then Dhaqan really appreciated the tall, athletic man that was standing in front of her. His dark beautiful hair accentuated his gorgeous features and his smile was contagious, the kind of smile that left you with a warm funny feeling.

As they were about to part ways, Dhaqane asked Dhaqan for her number…
