"However, if you see someone avoiding positions of power, it might mean he/she understands the gravity of the matter."

It could also mean that the person is not up to the challenge...besides, in all "democratic" countries ...one of the contenders is elected..so if we where to have any democracy are we supposed to use this hadith and be suspicious of anyone who is running for office??

Your clouded by clannish implications my 'wadaad' friend.

Ashlee~,
Stop talking about 'clan' all the time. I'm telling you, regardless, of Qabiil, it would be difficult to accept a 28 year old guy, WHO HAS NOT PROVEN HIMSELF to be Ambassador to the US..............You're crazy.
ALL THE PEOPLE you mention PROVED themselves BEFORE they were given such positions.
THAT IS THE MAIN DIFFERENCE............Prove yourself FIRST.

Cawar,
"so if we where to have any democracy are we supposed to use this hadith and be suspicious of anyone who is running for office??"
Yes, and I think their track records prove that. In fact, anytime I see people 'campaigning' I remember this hadith.

quote "Paul Allen — Washington State University
Michael Dell — University of Texas at Austin
Larry Ellison — University of Chicago
Shawn Fanning — Northeastern University
Bill Gates — Harvard College
Wayne Inouye — University of California, Berkeley
Steve Jobs — Reed College in Portland, Oregon
Steve Wozniak — University of California, Berkeley"
Diplomats and politicians none. Your argument holds no water, as my previous post, which i've quoted below, testifies.
quote "All the more reason to be educated, as Ambassador is all about show, not go. Making things happen, like Gates, Branson, et. al, requires go, not show. But when dealing with pomp and circumstance, appearance is everything. You NEED a resume, even if it is useless in practical terms. But you know this, you're just begging to differ."

I know there are better candidates for the position. But somalia needs young faces. Would these same pompous bunch hooting and hollering by up in arms if a 28 year old sacad or bajuni drop out were put in place?

NOOOOOO.
GB
You abuse hadiths to justify yourself

I can't remember off the top of my head. But one of the leading islamic generals was less then 28 at the time when he was leading armies for the prophet. Age is but a number.

Ashlee~,
All those people you mention made something of themselves..........
Why do you think I criticize Bush Jr. so much?

Not as Ambassador. Ambassador is a Senior position.

You're talking about Usama bin Zaid.........Yes, he was 17. The Prophet appointed him PERSONALLY and we know the Prophet received Inspiration.
However, many of the Sahaba questioned it, but Abu Bakr (ra) continued with that command because of the Prophet's ORDER.
So, the conventional wisdom of even some of the most learned Sahabas was that it was too Senior a position for a boy of 17, but because of the fact that the Prophet received waxiy in his decisions, it was continued.
However, as a general rule for us to follow, the Prophet asked to appoint matters to people who are qualified for them, age, wisdom, experience, etc.

UB,
You are right in your claim that age shouldn't dictate wheter or not one can serve in office, but when selection for a government post is done based on clan affiliation, there is something seriously wrong with it.
The baby faced lad doesn't have the right education or experience for such a post, if he wasn't A/Yusuf's nephew, we wouldn't be talking about him.

Einstein didn't drop out of school, and even if he did, he proved himself.
But he didn't get a Nobel Prize UNTIL he proved himself.
I don't beleive school is the only metric, but the burden of proof is on YOU to prove he is qualified, not on us to prove he is not qualified.
