But I would rather be in Puntland than Banadir or any of the Southern Gobols.

I heard with my own ears a group of Hawiye [HGs, Sacads] stating 'if we knew this was going to be the result, then, we would have over thrown the Barre's regime.' I was taken back by that remark.

Diplock, overthrowing the previous regime didnÂ’t really require much effort because everyone hated it. People need to understand why they hated the regime since they were the ones who welcomed it in the 70s. The problem was not only political but also social and economical. The habargidir from central Somalia, just like the Isaaq and the majeerteen before them experienced a different problem to those experienced by the southern Somalis. They were subjected to murder, their animals being taken away by force, oppression and so onÂ…they hated the regime and saw it as a clan issueÂ….similar to the Isaaq. I think that is what resulted in the revenge attacks following the liberation of Somalia.

I think the regime was better than the insecurity that followed it. But IÂ’m saying that because my life was perfect with the regime. However I canÂ’t ignore the persecution inflicted on others because that outweighs the level of security and normalcy I enjoyed. People will not welcome anything that is causing more good than harm. The TFG will need to prove to the people that it can act as a real government. Not a puppet or clan regime. Obviously, I will not accept it whatever it does. But if it creates peace and security, democracy and justice; the majority of Somalis will be able to push their disgust for the TFG leaders to the back of their mind.

The TFG will not succeed for the simply reason the power behind its inception is opposed to any form of government in Somalia. Unless the real power in the world - the USA reign on this local power and tell her:' dont stand in the way of genuine Somali gov't developing' all I can predict is a lame duck 'gov't' relying on clan-based troops for its survival and eventually going the way of the previous TNG gov't.

I am also on the opinion the civil war could have been avoid if the victorious Hawiye militias had a pauce of thought instead of attacking innocent people like wild animals.

It seems Somalis are now tired of conflict and they are prepared to share power and the days of clan-based conflicts are over. or is it really??

True, they are unlikely to ever establish real power without the foreign troops and they will never be a legitimate government with the foreign troops. The martial law is a big mistake. The people are not going to accept any of it and they will spend their next two years creating more problems. People are never going to be tired of fighting for a good cause.

Southern Somalia with all of it's Bananas, Canbe, rivers of honey Shabeele and Juba was overrated. The farms were owned by wealthy Italian landowners before Ahmed Keyse an Isaaq minister came and confiscated it from the Italians and gave it back to it's rightful owners, the people of Southern Somalia. Siyad Barre was illadvised to screw with the money of Isaaqs, livestock trading was the backbone of the Somali economy and Somalia's hard currency earner, virtually all of it was done between Burco and Berbera, biggest tarders were Isaaq. The Barre administration of 1970s had many Isaaqs working with him for the betterment of the Somali nation as a whole, however, corruption was unbearable, so many left his administration and joined the SNM like Mahmoud Ahmed Silaanyo the last Somali finance minister. Cumar Carte and many Northernors left.

The reason the Isaaqs decided to not join forces with the SSDF has to do with the SNM's being far more superior in terms of military tactics, high ranking ex officers of the Somali National Army, men like Ina Mire, Ina Koosaar and also the seasoned diplomats within the SNM's civilian chain of command. The SNM had for democratically elected chairmen, a central committee compormised of civilians as well as military men.

Barre. Shoud have left the North(Isaaq) alone and we all would still have a country called Somalia.
