Portugal could have easily scored a couple of more if we didn't have De jong play in the DM position. Don't get me wrong, this whole squad didn't do their jobs; Van Persie and Huntelaar couldn't score if their lives depended on it. Robben was useless, a one-trick pony is the best description of his talent. Afelay is a bench warmer in Barca so what do you expect from him? Sneijder continued his poor form (Which wouldn't have happened if he just WENT TO MAN UNITED LAST YEAR FOR REASONABLE MONEY!). The only guy that was playing well today in the middle was Van der vaart but its a little too late now. With the coach, I was supporting his lineup but not the players he chose to start. He should definitely be fired. I actually wouldn't mind seeing Van basten coach this team again. At least under that dude these guys were scoring.

With that being said, going back to Holland defenders. When Hentiga, an everton player, is your best player available in front of you goalkeeper you know you just have nothing going for you in the back. Gio was their last remaining star defender, who retired in 2010, and he was among the star class of Cocu, Stam, etc. guys that were starting center backs for big teams.

In conclusion to my rant, these bunch have one more tournament left in them. This was their last Euro together as a core. They will be not be there in 2016 (The youngest of them will be Sneijder and he'll be 32 I believe). Sad thing is these men (Sneijder, Van der daart, Robben, Van persie) were suppose to be the new golden generation for the Netherlands just like Spain had theirs. Instead they turned out to be a bunch of big egos that couldn't get along.
It was expectable. Every european world cup finalist was eleminnated in the first round of the next european cup. Germany lost the finals in 2002, they were booted out early at the euro 2004. France lost the finals in 2006, they didnt reach the second round of euro 2008. Holland lost the finals in 2010, they were sent to home after the first rounds.

England would have won the group and Ukraine would have been eliminated even with a tie

it doesn't matter, that goal should have been allowed. It was a daylight robbery.

It wasn't. If anything, it would've been an injustice had the goal been allowed because there was a clear offside leading up to it.

Even after their qualifying performances you thought they had no chance of surviving this? Portugal and Denmark were no match for the 2010 dutch which was literally the replica of this current team. Robben at 70% then was 3 times as effective as this year's Robben.

Was it expected from Van Persie to play like crap after having his best season in the premier league? no. If we go by your same logic of finalist at the world cup crashing at the euros, is France going to beat Spain? cuz we know Italy lost to Spain in 08.

Marwijk favored his son in law over a Bundesliga top scorer, that's what I saw. I applauded him for bringing van bommel back into the national team 2 years ago but netherlands is not a desperate ukraine whose best player is past his prime. If we went by that logic of taking players starting in big clubs no matter the age why was Seedorf omitted?

Yeah I saw the replay on the post game show. They said it was clear offside before the disallowed goal.

I mean the losing finalist. France, Germany and Holland all lost the finals at a World Cup and were crashed at the following euro. If we go back to history the theory i mentioned still stands. In 1994 Italy lost the WC finals to brasil, the following euro in 1996, they were kicked out at the first round

The qualifiations were good, but far from perfect. Van Marwijk himself said he ignored the signals and wanted to pull it off for one more time.
