Paidmonk please get me the estimates from that same source of other parts of Somalia. To be honest I have always doubted the statistics of Somalis. Even cities like Minneapolis where Somalis write they are 60,000 thousand all the estimates write they are about 15,000.

I have seen my own fair share of Garowe statistics here, ranging from 75,000 and above. But if if I swear to god, if I take off my Somali glasses and put on objective American lense, that town does not look more than 10,000 people.

I am not putting down anyone. If I ask John sitting next to me how many does he think live in this town he probably will give a more conservative estimate than 10,000.

Look what surrounds the one infamous tall structure of Garowe

And the rest of the "city"

^Less than 10,000 populated developments in my city are a mega-city compared to that.

Imagine the rest of Somalia.

Truth be told

Garowe isnt bigger than Hadaaftimo

Qardho isnt bigger than Dhahar

Galackyco isnt bigger than Badhan

Yet all three of the Maakhir towns are exclusively one sub-clan, even in the towns they claim to dominate there numbers are not greater than Maakhir.

The only leg up Puntland has against Maakhir is Bosaaso and still its not theirs.

Garowe is a district, the population of the district is 75k. The district consists of over a dozen towns and villages, including Kalabayr, Duss, Reebanti, Calahargo, Lavadulli, Kalis, Qalanqal, and 20-30 others. So, its safe to say that Garowe central city is 10k just like Kismayo central city might be around 30k.

Oh, and you wanted data on OTHER cities, well here you go:

http://www.internal-displacement.org, SUB-SECTION Somalia, SUB-SECTION Pop. Figures and Profiles, SUBSECTION Geographical Distribution (aka IDPs):

Bosaso - 120,000 city, 250,000 district

Meanwhile, the entire DISTRICT of Kismayo is only 88k.

We are not comparing Kismaayo and Garowe. I think that is an insult to Kismaayo.

But I gave you a simple request. Please get me the same estimates from that same estimate of Kismaayo at that time that they gave for all of Somalia and its other cities/regions.

That website does not work.

Kismaayo has less than 100,000 people?

And the source is some UNDP report? The same UNDP that gets paid top $$$ for their falsified & conservative estimates? These same aid agencies who pressure the international community for the number of IDPs in a given territory that they have to provide for compared to the whole population? Which essentially means it is in the best interest of their pockets to claim small populations for certain regions, that way they can easily say most of the population or a good half are IDPs and thus we need more funding.

I went to Xamar & Marka in 2006, Marka had atleast over 70,000 living in it and for anyone who grew up in the south, that figure is the norm since the south is heavily populated and can easily sustain these large populations compared to more arid regions where agriculture & water is very limited. How can Somalia's 3rd largest city that happens to be the largest city south of Xamar have a measle 88,000? This is the type of hypocrisy that oozes out of this paidmonk kid; on one hand denying others their entitled rights & claims, on the other hand trying to paint a rosy picture of his people's territories. Welcoming bloodshed & mayhem for the south, while praising his clan leaders & wanting progress for them, while the rest of the country burns. On one hand supporting criminals (from his clan) who are known lackeys, while calling others (Shariif) a murtad. Then he turns around & accuses others of hypocrisy. We see through you, kiddo.

Somalia is a shithole, no doubt about that. We're all bickering over dusty old towns that haven't seen better days since their colonial rulers left. Most of the infrastructure in the country is what was left by the colonial powers and even they wouldn't be able to recognize it today if they came because of the level of neglect. We're a joke in the modern world, while civilzed people over-look small details & come together for greater good, we can't even agree on the population size of our cities. Nothing worse than hypocrisy & double-standards though.

Its an insult to Somalia that Kismayo even exists. Just another Southern tragedy, I don't get why anyone would separate it from Beletweyn, Xamar, Marka, and all the other tragedies in the south, besides of course Majerteen making the place partially livable in Calanleey.

And the website does work. Go to http://www.internal-displacement.org, then find Somalia's profile, then check "population figures and profiles" heading and you'll find all kinds of info.

Voltage,

That picture was taken on a very hill/semi-mountain. It makes the city look tiny but it isn't.

Kolombo I was getting there sxb. These guys want to look effective, so they downplay other regions they cannot get access to and hype regions they can get access to so their work comes out very efficient in the national level.

Paidmonk, conveniently put a .com in there instead of .org and I went there. Look what they said about Boosaaso's internally displaced population whom they said is majority Raxanweyn, Jareer, Oromo, and some Somali:
UNHCR/UNDP, December 2000, p.34:
"Bossaso town suffered a moderate level of physical destruction and has to cope with poverty and environmental problems. Strongly affected by influx of IDP estimated at 165,000 and returnees (close to 8,000), the district has a limited absorption capacity because of its weak urban services. After the war Bossaso became the most important port of the Northeast, which is a unique employment source."
This is from the UNHCR/UNDP's report in 2000, just when Puntland was made and people start going there.

They said the returnees (read: Majeerteen ama Harti) are 8,000 while 165,000 of the population are IDP's other than returnees.

But look at this, the same group then in 2003, changed their whole estimate from 165,000 being just IDP's to the overall population is 120,000 while 22,000 are Raxanweyn and Jareer IDP's
UN, 18 November 2003, p. 153:
“The port city of Bossaso in northeastern Somalia has a total estimated population of 120,000 people. In addition, an estimated 22,000 IDPs live in various camps around the city in a very precarious situation. The IDPs are mostly from the regions of southern Somalia where they fled sporadic fighting and clan skirmishes.
Talk to Gedo_Girl who now works for the U.N about all the tricks the U.N aid workers pull to make themselves look effective in Somalia.

One thing is for certain, and that is a quarter of Puntland's population is Jareer and Raxnaweyn and it will only go up in the future.

paidmonk,

I know your kind and all I did was point out your glaring hypocrisy on this forum. I saw you claiming to oppose Shariif because he's "fighting alongside a Christian army" yet you proudly support Faroole who is a known lackey. If Al-shabaab went to P/land today to install their rule, I can bet you'll be the first to cry about it.

Those Jareer and Raxanweyn go to work, can you say that about any grown male in Kismayo?

Kolombo,

I was referring to the hypocrisy of the religious "elite" here. I am not religious nor have I ever been religious, I didn't even refer to MYSELF in that post, it was not about me. I am secular but I applaud the Shabaab in the South because Shariah has been positive there. Everything is fine in Puntland, no need for Shabaab at all.
