The reality is that most somalilanders and especially most isaaq wanted unification, the only difference was the micheal marianos party lost the election,
while Egals party the SNL won and took usinto a headlong dive into unity, and there the nightmare started...

The opposition party did not oppose unification either, but only wanted a slower and smoother transition into unity with the south, probably with a federal structure.........

I said the British supported the concept which was already the wishes of the Somali people. The only thing that was official British policy was that British Somaliland would be granted independence in 1960. Everything else was moot in a trusteeship headed towards Independence. The British supported it and stoked pro-unification fires even when the world made its objections to Greater Somalia.
