Lamagoodle..I am not Idil no. I actually see a lot of positive work being done, nowhere near enough but no-one gets rich off FGM. Waris was a model before she began campaigns and everyone else has another job to support them, the money goes straight to the women, especially for places like clinics where they can get re-opened under anaesthetic. I see work getting done. As I keep saying, we discuss everything that happens in China and the rest of the world, but its shamefult o talk about our own problems even when the whole world is talking for us? How can we shoot rapists when Somali people are still supporting al shabaab?
Your claim here is disgenuine, and I doubt yor goal is to help the Somali women backhome. The fact is Al-Shabaab has many deficiencies and committed many mistakes and human rights violations against Somalis, but let us get real here - Al-Shabaab doesn't tolerate banditry and rape. One of the few things they achieved in all areas under their control is to end lawlessness, and it is a well-known fact that rape is taking place due to lawlessness. It is one thing if you want to talk about human rights violations, such as as rape against women in Somalia, but it is another if you want to highlight the least affected areas.

For bringing Female Circumsition to a halt, I think the Egyption model of combatting it should be adopted by Somalis. Egyptian women have worked with the religious establishment, and endless fatwas were issued against the practice. The highest religious authority in Egypt has advocated the eradication of female circumsition since there are no bases in Islam to cut innocent young women. For the Somali feminists, you don't need a Somali state to do the work for you, you don't need western newspapers and TVs talking about it, you need to work with the religious authority in Somalia. That is only if you're genuine in stopping this pracetice.

In places in America that are lawless people creep through windows and rape women, so why wouldn't it happen in Somalia? When theres no central authority the strong devour the weak, whether its robbing, killing, maiming, raping. During the times when Somalia had a Government which was far from a Islamic Government rape was very uncommon, yet it started happening as soon as anarchy set in. This is why Islam always teaches to try to preserve statehood no matter what.
How did this enter the debate bro

This piece must be from someone who left the country in the 90s or some self-serving NGO trying to benefit from misinformation. Call Somalia hospitals and ask them how many rape victims they treat every year. Men rape women in all corners of the globe and I can assure you that Somalia is not even in the top 50 countries today. Somali women in the country suffer in many ways but systematic rape is not one of them. If you insist on your assumption pls share some verifiable information with us. Data from tainted NGOs doesn't count.

Yes, Somali women have a long way to go when it comes to financial security, equal job opportunity, political voice, etc, entrepreneurship and business, etc, etc.
Most useful piece of news from this whole topic and makes more sense than that article which had no quotes or true evidence. Thanks for what waryaa
