How weird I was just about to post this topic, I hate multi-nicks very much ! here are some info on the bastards.

Types of multi-nicks.

type 1: the psycho: who talks to themselves because they think it is entertaining to others and they want that attention, they do it openly or even secretly staging some sort of show for other members. personality disorder, attention deficit or a just plain psychotic, we have a few of those.

type 2: the flower-clats: they are the ones who do not talk to themselves but engage other members with multiple usernames in the same topic or attack their target in other topic with a completely different username. they do this because they are disgruntled flower-clat who were beaten in a debate and want to insult their opponent but fear the backlash on their regular username so create another one which they barely use other than insult certain members. we have plenty of these bastards.

type 3: the spammers, they want to keep certain topic active using multiple usernames, these rarely bother anyone else, they stick to the topic created by their other username and usually post topics of same subject, its as if they are working. the reason why they do this is because their topics do not generate enough post and they are really passionate about the topic, but to others it is either boring, irrelevant or completely exhausted topic etc. we have a few of these as well, they are normal people but quite sad and time wasters.

ALL MULTI-NICKS SHOULD BE EXPOSED FIRST AND SUBSEQUENTLY BANNED !!!!

Multinicking to cause trouble is an active war with the mods. However, there's nothing wrong with multi-nicking as long as those nicks are not being used to wage wars, insult others, etc. The profile you created over the years may prevent you from participating some discussions and I don't see anything wrong with creating another nickname for such discussions. For instance, qorexeey and dr. yalaxow are not seen to be serious by many. What if such person wants to get very serious? What about if your older brother posts here and knows your nickname and you want to talk about something that doesn't fit good with your family values?

The second concern is about different people using the same public IP address. What if different people use the same IP address (household/internet cafe, etc)? The largest ISP in Mogadishu uses one public IP address for all of their customers.

Ilaahay amarkii, I had about half a dozen nicks back in Slife (though I rarely used the rest of them, well for specific tasks ;) ) & since I moved here it didn't even occur to me to have another nick. Who on earth can log in with multiple nicks with their own different, unique personalities? Not getting paid for that shit.

Now you've let the multinick-ers to exhale one hell of a breath. You should have waited for couple of days until we got some real confessions, or some of them disappeared for good.

Waryaa, I agree with most of what you said, I definitely accept a person who changed their username and seized to use their older username for whatever reason may it be to protect their identity which was compromised in previous username(s) or be it to recreate your online personality so to be taken more/less seriously.

some people take breaks from Somalinet and then come back whiles having forgotten their password, so they create a new username, waxaas oo dhan waa caadi.
Its perfectly normal to switch username for any reason, but my problem is multi-nicks that are used quite often with malicious intend. changing from one username to one of your older ones every now and then is ok as long as you don't do it too often, but if you do it constantly in short intervals it is multi-nicking.

IP is used to detect the multi-nicking, I don't have much technical knowledge regarding forums and IPs but I guess Moderators who engage members have that extra insight and can be trusted with picking out multi-nickers.

There are harmless multi-nickers who are forced to have another nick because of the tyrant-like behaviour of some mods

But seriously, those who who multi-nick for malicious reason should be banned permanently. as well as those that multi-nick in order to to get to private groups or claim to hail from a clan that they are not in order to start qabil tit for tat..

There is not a single person from all those that replied to this topic that don't have at least two more nicks.
