Wasn't he the most high ranking official in Berbera at the time when Hargeisa was being bombed? I have a hard time believing he didn't know Hargeisa was going to be bombed from the skies but for argument's sake, let's just say he was completely oblivious and really didn't know what was going on. How about all those cases of those being tortured and killed? Many were tortured and killed in Berbera as well as Hargeisa. Are we honestly supposed to believe he either didn't give any orders for anyone to be tortured, killed or didn't know that people were being tortured and killed in Berbera?

Let's be fair and impartial here.

i dont know who this samatar dude is but if there is a clear evidence brought forward linking him to war crimes; then definately he should be prosecuted and sentenced to death penalty.

i dont know who this caydiid dude is but if there is a clear evidence brought forward linking him to war crimes; then he definitely shouldn't be praised for the genocide, mass rape, and torture that happened in somalia.

I'm trying to point out the flaw in Somali logic. A man can be forgiven past crimes as it is in my clan's best interest to do so however at the same time I wish for another to be prosecuted for previous acts commited. Where's the balance in that?

My second point was that the current Somali government has forwarded immunity to Gen. Samatar therefore, similar to the shir of Borama, we must forgive and forget and any talks of prosecution should be ended.

In that so called Boorama shir, the immunity was not extended to individuals it was a clan immunity meaning those clans who spied on the isaaq like your Darood and gedabursi. Samatar or Morgan or such individuals were never given immunity ,

No he was not , Riyaale wa junior officer in the intelligence service , he was not in the army nor he had the clout to issue any death decrees like Geele , Morgan , Samatar , Afweyne and the rest of the Daarood and Midgans. Not even Hawiye or other Somalis had such clout , 99% of the top ranking military were Daarood and the only few who were not Daarood were the likes of Samatar and Fardo Jaan and Axmed Adan.

I don't understand what the commotion is all about. The plaintiffs went to court and won their case. If another group of plaintiffs are successful in building a case against a former government official be he Hawiye or Issaq, why don't they ?

The Shirdoon/Xasan govt erred in providing diplomatic cover for such a controversial war criminal. It was not as if he was going to be executed for his crimes, he was simply going to lose the ill gotten gains he managed to bring with him stateside.
