indeed, an interesting article. You will notice it was written after Gersony, discusses him on pages 197-98 and disagrees only with the timing of the Government arming the refugees in the camps. The US Congress and the Reagan Administration were working at cross purposes at this time, but 1987 is about the year US aid to the Barre Regime became limited. Sadly, the Cold War was still more of an issue than human rights.

To me, the most significant point about the Gersony report is the degree to which the SNM blended into the civilian population. I can forgive the SNM for not having uniforms, but it seems somewhat disingenuous then to claim the Barre Regime targeted so many civilians. Did you notice Barre also hit the Majertain?

Did you know the Brits had separate treaties with each of the clans? Once they were gone, there wasn't any Somaliland; in six days there was Union with the South. The Gersony report makes it clear why Isaaqland is what it is. The SNM was never inclusive of the non-Isaaq clans.

There's a lot more disparity than what you mentioned.Looks to me you just took a quick peruse and selected what little that did no conflict with the US report.

These are just a few points and all before there was even an SNM presence inside the boarders of the old SDR
