Must have been them bad boys from Burco. The niggas had Rambo styled knifes strapped..
Btw, beside being skinny with big foreheads that weighed more than the rest of their body, I noticed no gayness.
Maybe, Ximanxaare's gayder was working overtime picking everything up in Lido beach..

If Somalis were effeminate, they wouldn't have terrorized the Indian Ocean with speedboats and ropes while wearing macawis

Ximan my friend, nice observation, I agree with you completely and whoever so much as even attempts to deny this, is being wilfully blind and deep down they know. This is such a sad phenomena, I always cringe when am watching Somali songs and when I see the behaviour and mannerism of the Somali men (not all but many). I don't know why they dont see this in themselves and try to rectify it. I am not manly myself, I would say am neutral now, I use to be between effeminate and neutral, I became concious of this as I grew older and took active steps to change.
I think the problem is upbringing, I don't this Somali men or any men in the world are predisposed to being effeminate. Somali people don't generally take educating their children seriously and trying to produce capable healthy human beings, they mostly worry about their food, and not much emphasis is placed on cultivating their manners, boys being taught and trained from early age through various means of what it means to be a strong man in appearance and behaviour who completely fulfils his role. They don't understand the importance of Moulding their children to be people that contribute to the stability and progress of their society. I digressed a little, but this is broader part of a sort of dysfunctional people.
I think we as Somali guys, spent a lot of time with our hoyos as children and not enough time with abo, who is always away and unaware of his duties towards his children beyond putting food on the table. Some of these feminine traits could be as a result this.

The thing that struck me about this topic is that he claims that Somali men back home are feminine, I mean I would have indulged the idea of Somali men in the west being feminine, but Faraaxs back home being feminine
Let's entertain your claims for a sec Ximan, let's say Somali men back home are feminine, how do you explain our harsh nomadic culture? our prideful ways? faraxs taking entire tribes to war over bruised egos? the harsh environment back home don't leave much room for jiljileec.
You don't have to look far to realize that our entire existence as people revolves around being the best and bravest, just look at the gabays, buraanburs, dhaantos etc markas ninka la amaanayo waxa lagu billawa "Geesi hebel, Geesi ba ku dhaley, reer geesi ah baad ka so jeeda " etc

Going to war with the British, Ethiopians, Italians and even sending pirates to hijack ships in the Indian Ocean is pretty f-king masculine to me

I don't think the OP knows what being effeminate really is. He thinks Somali men dancing awkwardly and being skinny (as a result of malnutrition) is being effeminate. Believe me, I know plenty of Somali guys here in Canada and we are FAR from effeminate (even though we are technically Somali and we have the same genetics as our brethren back home).

Re: Why are Somali men so effeminate?
Are you saying there is no segment of the Somali male population that displays feminine disposition? Those Geeljire's that you mentioned are becoming part of fading past as Somalia increasingly becomes more urbanised. No more harsh environment to contend with. No one is saying manly Somali don't exist.Xamud. wrote:The thing that struck me about this topic is that he claims that Somali men back home are feminine, I mean I would have indulged the idea of Somali men in the west being feminine, but Faraaxs back home being feminine![]()

Anything that starts with; why are Somali men/women ........? Always reeks of self-hate.
I never identify my cultural ways with others, I never think mine is bad, unless it has psychological and physical effects that are detrimental.

Gacmaha laisqabsanayo it is a cultural thing and usually waa labo isla dalatay. So ofcourse someone raised in dayuusbara is gonna find it shockinga, just like walking wth macawis in the streets of London, Sydney, etc.
