Kaafiye wrote: If you pick and choose which aspects of Islam you want to believe in, or disbelieve in....then you don't really believe in it at all. Allah warned us in the Quran about people such as you, and you are a hypocrite and a jaahil who seeks to divert others from the Path of Allah.

Quran 45:18 "Then We put you, [O Muhammad], on an ordained way concerning the matter [of religion]; so follow it and do not follow the inclinations of those who do not know."

Quran 14:3 "The ones who prefer the worldly life over the Hereafter and avert [people] from the way of Allah , seeking to make it (seem) deviant. Those are in extreme error."

You're the one who's forced to do mental gymnastics to defend the indefensible. Not me. I'm an Orthodox Muslim who follows the Quran and Sunnah, and I have no idea what you are or what you believe. But your positions aren't the positions of any Orthodox Muslim, and then you have the nerve to call me an extremist despite the fact that I said nothing extreme. Allah commanded us to pray 5 times a day, at set times, and you really have no choice in this matter or not. You can't come up to Allah on Judgment Day and say "Oh Allah, I chose not to pray because I didn't feel like it."

And if you don't want to pray, then that's up to you. I'm not here to force you to practice Islam....but I am here to stop you from poisoning Muslims with your deviant views, making sins openly acceptable.

I have plenty of Muslim friends who don't pray regularly, who go clubbing, and who do all sorts of wild things. However, my friends ALL KNOW that what they're doing is wrong, and they wish to change their behavior sometime soon. They KNOW that drinking alcohol is unacceptable, or having sex outside of marriage is unacceptable. They don't seek to make it "Islamic". They don't seek to corrupt the religion by changing the definitions and playing with words. What's wrong is wrong.

At least Abdi Johnson is honest about what he believes. YOU on the other hand, claim to be Muslim yet you openly reject the Quran and Sunnah, and then you have the nerve to call me an extremist. Wallahi you are despicable
Interpretations change over time, What has been considered to be "Orthodox Islam" has changed from era to era. . Even though the Quran forbids drinking wine, the Hanifi legal view at the time of the Abbasid caliphate allowed alcoholic drinks made from dates, honey, or figs. Harun al-Rashid the fifth Abbasid Caliph also engaged in drinking alcohol later in his reign. There was also a flourishing of Homo-erotic poetry and art in Andalusian Spain(in Baghdad as well but primarily Moorish Spain). The Andalusian Caliphs Abd ar-Rahman III, al-Hakem II, Hisham II, and al-Mutamid openly kept all-male harems as well.

What is considered permissible in Islam, changes with cultural influences and norms. Although I agree that normative Islam today, does in fact consider homosexuality fahisha which is all that matters for now, i guess.
