The H.Y in the other hand were further south as the nature of the tribal settelment dictated, by 1924 the H.Y pushed the Ogaadeen south as far as Qabri Dhahar by taking even Wardheer and even raided the Mareexaan in Ribadle( 1927 led by Rigaax) East of Dhuuso Mareeb in Ethopia. From 1668-1930 the entire Daarood historical land were on Isaaq hands save for few dark Mareexaan souls hiden among the Hawiye.

Cilmiile, having said that I could not resist the urge to write on it. Last night, I had a conversation with my father whom I rarely discuss with clan wars and its history, but this one you noted above , had such an impact on the Somali history. I am told someone has all the poems of Afdhaal. Rest assured I will compile those precious peoms in the future. However, I found a glimpse of this history and would like to share with you Hartis. As you said , we can learn from it.

In 1848, rival bands of Majerten army raided several settlements of Garad Cabdalle (Warsangeli) in Sanaag and looted an extensive animal wealth of more than 1200 thorough-bred Arabian Horses known in Somalia "Sunari". An envoy of 24 Garad Cabdalle men was sent to the Majeerten sultan for the redemption of these horses through diplomatic means. Among the men were great warriors, poets, and experts in the field of conflict-resolution. They were Ahmed BahalAfdheer (He was a poet and an author of more than 150 well-known sayings. Dahir Af Qarshe, a Dhulbahante based in Las Anod and historian has kept his sayings and he once aired on Radio Mogadisho in the 80s), the great warrior Afdhaal, Saalax Biin, Baxwal Maxamoud Cali, and Cabdi FaadhFaadh whose long poem is now available at http://www.golkhatumo.com/Bal.htm . Those men, BahalAfdheer and Afdhaal were Bahugeyslabe sub-sections of Garad Cabdale, Saalax Bin was of Bihidoor, and Baxwal and Cabdi Faadhfaadh were of Reer Garad and Rer Fatah respectively. These men had traveled for two months to Nugaal and Deep in Barri for the mission.

Ahmed Bahalafhder first addressed the Majerten Sultan together with the elders. He was orally recorded to have said,

"Nin Run Yaqaanow nala Hadal
"Nin Rabi Yaqaanow hana Qadin
"Nin Rag Yaqaanow na Malee



Their rejoinders were harsh and cruel. They said, "If you need something to feast, feast Salax Biin, he is so giant to feed you all, and if you need your horses , you have Baxwal who is gifted with the looks of the Patriarchs. He can breed the same horses ,so you shouldn' t worry".

The envoys left the Majeerten with nothing and came back to their tribal bases. The Warsangeli, therefore, waged its biggest assault on the Majerten and conquered many lands. One of the towns conquered was Qardho, in which Afdhaal met, AfQamash, a Majerten. AfQamash, holdings his worst grudge for Warsangeli for the damages they wreaked on Majerten, was asked to speak. He said,

"Xaajow Qabiilkaa tahey baan laabtu Qabaneyn
"Maqligeyga daabkan qabtaa ummadi qaadaa
"Naga quma qamuunyadda ilkaha yaan laguu qarin

Afdhaal responded,


"Kun Qaraara waataad fardaha qalam ka siiseyne
"Ragga qaran ahna waatad ergada qala tidhaahdeene
"Wax qadhqoodh ilaah kugu ridey quluc aad heyseene
"Qadhaadhkii Igaar iyo Xandhi iyo Qolol haddaan joogo
"Aasan maanta qale kuu ahey aad qool i galin weydey
"Qoslayey qamuunyadda maxaa iga qubanaaya

Damal xagare, It is a long long poem. I picked the last two Sadar, and It looks like an army general addressing his troops before they are to start their onslaught. This is the greatest poem I have ever come across , very very rich and sophisticated.
